Metastatic Breast Cancer Network

  Voices Newsletter

April 2011

Dear MBCN Members,

Thank you for your warm welcome in these last few weeks. I could not be more pleased to volunteer as the new president of MBCN. I want to thank Ellen Moskowitz for all of her work and dedication over the last 5 years to make MBCN what is it today. She is a role model and an inspiration. She, Nina and Suzanne have worked tirelessly, and I hope I can continue to do all that Ellen has already put in place. Thank you, Ellen!

While I have not had breast cancer, I have seen first-hand the devastation of breast cancer having lost many close friends to the disease. And, having been a care giver to one of my best friends who sadly passed way last February, I have become more determined to help change the way the medical community, the public, and other breast cancer organizations view metastatic breast cancer. It is not enough to address metastatic breast cancer, but we need to empower researchers to focus not just on prevention but on stopping metastasis in its tracks!

I am looking forward to contributing the experience I've gained working in other voluntary health organizations and I hope to open a dialogue so that MBCN can provide you with more of what you need and enhance what we are already doing. We hope this first issue of Voices will be the beginning of this dialogue. We want to hear from you and we need your help! We have lots of opportunities for volunteers, as you can see below.

MBCN is here for all of you, and we look forward to hearing from you and providing an even larger voice to our still under-represented population.

My warmest regards,

Michele Przypyszny

MBCN Volunteer President
