Greetings!
Welcome to the third quarterly Las Positas College Foundation newsletter! This newsletter was created to better connect you - our invaluable campus and regional community - with the College and the Foundation's shared goal of building a brighter future together.
Las Positas College serves the entire Tri-Valley from its campus in Livermore. LPC educates students for transfer to four-year universities and colleges and for technical and vocational careers, while also offering life-long learning opportunities for continuous education.
The LPC Foundation informs our regional community about the College its members own and promotes the College's opportunities, resources, and benefits. The LPCF also develops resources supporting the College.

"Giving and Getting"
Supporter and Recipient Spotlight
The Mario Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation awards hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to deserving graduates of Livermore high schools in pursuit of higher education. Las Positas College students have been the recipients of many of these scholarships.
Michael Bauer
 | One of these LPC students is eighteen year-old Michael Bauer who was recently awarded $1000 by the Pedrozzi Foundation. Michael attended Granada High School in Livermore and is majoring in civil engineering at Las Positas College. He plans to transfer to UCLA.
In his own words, Michael has commented on the impact of his Pedrozzi scholarship:
"Being the first in my family to attend college, it was incredibly difficult for me to figure out what I wanted to do and how I could achieve my goals. School has been extremely influential in helping me form and reach for my dreams. It has not only shown me that I need and want to attend college, but it has expanded my horizons, shown me that I love math, science, and building projects, and that I want to pursue a career in engineering. Earning an internship with the City of Livermore's Engineering Department and the Mario Pedrozzi Scholarship while attending LPC is turning my dreams into reality."
Consider contacting the Las Positas College Foundation to learn how you too can have a live-changing impact on a student like Michael! One way is through Planned Giving.

Planned Giving
Planned Giving support is the perfect way to create a legacy at Las Positas College. It can be as simple as a bequest in a will or involve more sophisticated forms of giving through tax and estate planning. The Las Positas College Foundation works with several highly credentialed independent attorneys who will happily provide pro bono assistance in developing your giving plan.
Your planned support of LPC is even more critical in the current economic environment. The College has experienced a 12½ % increase in enrollment from this past year compared to year before. At the same time, state funding has been reduced.
Your support is an investment in the College, its students, and our Tri-Valley community. Las Positas College is a true regional asset. Beyond its educational proficiency, Las Positas College's annual operational budget, in excess of $22 million, greatly contributes to the local economy as one of the Tri-Valley's largest businesses. College alumni embody the increased earning power of college graduates and 85% of them remain in the Tri-Valley region after completing their studies - even if they have transferred to four-year institutions.
You can read more about Planned Giving support on the Las Positas College Foundation Web site.

How Your Support Can Do More
Your support of the Las Positas College Foundation helps the campus community in tangible and important ways. Each year the Foundation awards over $60,000 in student scholarships. In addition, numerous other programs are supported by Foundation grants. Examples of these grants are: - Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded nearly $13,000 to support the College's Disabled Students Programs and Services.
- The LPCF underwrites numerous campus and community cultural events such as: The Annual Early Music Concerts and yearly mini-performances of a touring company of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival.
- The College Bound Scholars program - a 6th grade to college project - became a reality in September 2006 when an initial grant of $41,000 was approved by the Foundation Board. Since then, nearly $70,000 additional funding has helped to support the program.
- In December 2007, the Foundation granted $20,000 as seed money for Veterans First, an outreach program and financial support for returning veterans.
- In May 2008 $25,000 was granted to assist in the running of the Integrated Learning Center, a dynamic academic coaching facility staffed by faculty from the Departments of Mathematics, English, and English as a Second Language.
- $12,000 was granted in June 2008 to the Administration of Justice program to cosmetically upgrade a donated crime scene van that will be used for instruction and use for College outreach at community events.
- In August 2009, $10,000 was granted to the Associated Students of Las Positas College to underwrite its "Textbook Loaner" program for deserving students who cannot afford to purchase textbooks.
- In April 2010, the Foundation provided a $5,000 grant to the Horticulture Program for a new Green House.
All of these grants - and many more - were possible because of your support of the Las Positas College Foundation. Thank you! |
