Attendance and Call-In Policy

Attendance reflects school performance. Students are required to be in attendance all days that Delaware Area Career Center is in session. If possible, doctor appointments and other commitments should be scheduled after school hours. If an absence is unavoidable, please contact the South Campus at 740-201-3211 or North Campus at 740-203-2268 before 9:00 a.m.

For attendance FAQ, visit the attendance page of our DACC website.

Parking Permits

All students who drive to the Delaware Area Career Center need to purchase a Parking Permit.  Parking Permits are $5 per student and applications can be picked up at North from Mrs. Pemberton in the main office or at South from Mrs. English at the front counter.

Student Fees

Fees are due by the start of classes.  It is important to pay fees as soon as possible.  Many fees include the cost of lab workbooks and safety equipment that is needed to participate in lab assignments and maintain safety.  Fees can be paid with credit or debit cards.

Payment plans are also available.  Contact Anita English at South Campus 740-201-3210 or Debbi Pemberton at North Campus 740-203-2201 for assistance or if you have questions.

Fee Waivers

Students who qualify for a free lunch may also have school fees waived.  To become eligible for a fee waiver, parents must fill out a free and reduced lunch application with DACC and check off and sign the section asking for a fee waiver.

North Campus Student Pick Up/Drop Off Zone

For the safety of our students and staff please Drop Off and Pick up your student at the Main Entrance.  This will also help you to leave the parking lot much quicker.

Senior Projects

DACC Seniors had their start of the year Senior Project "Kick Off" meeting/student assembly on Monday, August 27.  The Parent Authorization and Release and Honesty Policy Forms (signed by parents) were due August 30th.  The Letter of Intent was due August 31st.  The next item due is the Thesis Statement which is due September 14th.  See your son or daughter for upcoming activities and due dates.

DACC Promoting Parent Partnerships

This monthly column will highlight topics for parents that will hopefully be informative and interesting. In addition, it is designed to strengthen the school, student, and family partnership, with the goal of improving student performance.

Did you know that according to educational research, as students advance through school, parents tend to be less involved with their child's education? Could the reasons be that a school building can be intimidating or can trigger bad feelings from when you were in high school? For some, entering the doors of a school building will trigger flashbacks of all the negative experiences they had growing up. On the other hand, maybe your high school experience was "the best four years of your life." If your experiences were not so positive, consider how you might approach supporting your child by discussing your feelings with a trusted friend, a family member, pastor, or other professional, as this might be a way to put your prior experiences behind you. Let DACC help support you by having you visit your child's program, even if it is not for a parent-teacher conference. Just pick up the phone and let us know when you would like to visit and see firsthand what your child is learning.  If you feel intimidated by the school setting, it will be comforting to know that most educators got into this field because they felt it was their calling and wanted to help kids. Furthermore, every staff member is here to help you and make a difference in you and your child's life. We are here to serve students and without you and your family we would not exist as an academic institution. Most importantly, your son/daughter needs you. Today's high school students face many difficult choices-which classes to take, what college to attend, what major to choose, and who to hang out with. The choices of today can become the path for the future. I know it may be hard for you to believe, but your high school student wants you to be involved in his/her life and these young adults need you more than you think. So let us know how we may be of service to you or your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or e-mail; we want to hear from you. If you have any suggestions for topics or wish to comment on the column, please e-mail me at wilsont@delawareareacc.org. I look forward to partnering with you over the course of the school year.

                  ~ Mr. Tom Wilson

BarkAID

The Delaware Area Career Center Cosmetology Lab provided the space for HSDC's recent BarkAID Fundraiser.  Patrick Lomantini, a Master Stylist from Kansas, chose to include the Humane Society of Delaware County in his 50 haircuts 50 States Hair Cut-A-Thon.  The Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, and Career Graphics Labs participated in this event along with several DACC staff members.  HSDC and DACC exceeded their goal of raising $1,000.  The grand total in proceeds donated to HSDC was $1,494.00.

DACC Hall of Fame
We are currently accepting nominations for the 2012 DACC Hall of Fame Induction. If you know an outstanding graduate who graduated in 2007 or earlier, we want to hear from you. Download the nomination form to get started. All persons nominated will receive consideration by the Selection Committee for possible admission into the Hall of Fame. More information is available on our website.
Fire Service Donation
Our Fire Service students can sometimes be the toughest around, but last Thursday was an emotional day for everyone. After the death of fellow classmate, Kenneth "Chet" Ruzika, all of the area fire departments came to show their support to the DACC fire staff and students. Last week, they returned with a gift - a Denver Tool. This was Chet's go-to tool, so it has a special meaning for the entire class. For more information please visit our website.
