 START/Rotary Fish Fry 
     The START students are teaming up again this year with the Rotary Club and hosting their 3rd annual Super Bowl Fish Fry on Sunday, February 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
     The fish fry will take place at the Clinton Rotary Building on the northwest corner of the Square. Dinner consists of fish, french fries, baked beans, cornbread and dessert. To-go orders are available.
     Tickets are only $10 each and are available from any Rotarian or START student. For more information, call 660-885-8166.

Business Seminar set for Feb. 15

     On Tuesday, February 15 the Chamber of Commerce and Business Development Center will co-host our 1st Quarter Roundtable of 2011. The seminar, entitled, "Starting & Managing a Small Business in Missouri," will be presented by the Small Business & Technology Development Center out of Warrensburg.
     This seminar is geared toward those with new businesses and those thinking of starting a business. It will cover a variety of topics, including basics like business plans.
     This event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. It will be held at the Business Development Center in Clinton and lunch will be provided. Event sponsors include the Chamber of Commerce, Community Association of Regional Enterprises, Hawthorn Bank, Pizza Glen, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Small Business & Technology Development Center.

     At this time the class is full, but if you would like to be on the waiting list or are interested in attending at another time, please contact Megan or Christa.

Senior Citizens PromSTART Senior Citizens Prom 

     The START students will host the annual Senior Citizens Prom on Friday, March 11. Tickets are free to senior citizens and are available at the Chamber of Ccmmerce, Senior Center and the Benson Center.

     The band "Remember When" is the entertainment for the evening. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 pot with proceeds going to home delivered meals. For more details call the Chamber at 885-8166.

2011 Sportshow Dennis2011 KC Boat & Sportshow

     Visit Clinton, Great People, By Nature- Dennis Sieger was one of seventeen volunteers who staffed Clinton's booth at the Kansas City Boat & Sportshow at Bartle Hall, January 13-16. Workers distributed copies of the Clinton visitor's guide, as well as brochures about downtown, Truman Lake and the Katy Trail and other information.

      Other volunteers included Joe Moritz, Larry Moffitt, Kenny and Cathie Goth, Don Bullock, Gene Henry, Ivan Oestreich, Tom and Brenda Dehn, Mike and Tracie Southerlin, Sam and Linda Gibbons, Sonny and Pam Lynch and Dave Garnett.

KT bookKaty Trail Guidebook special edition 
     The Katy Trail Guidebook has become a trusted resource for visitors from all over the country, who often plan their Katy trip from these pages.
     Due to popular demand, Pebble Publishing is once again updating and expanding The Complete Katy Trail Guidebook. This will be the tenth edition. This edition will be expanded to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Katy Trail.

Rick Segel to be in Clinton! 

       Rick Segel, a nationally-known retail specialist and consultant, will be in Clinton on Monday, March 14.

       Rick is dedicated to helping businesses seek strategies, learn techniques, and discover tools that make a business stand out in today's crowded marketplace. Rick has twenty years experience as a retailer in Kissimmee, FL, and writing, publishing, and speaking to businesses throughout the United States.

       Rick is often the featured speaker at trade shows and markets in various parts of the US. He will make an evening presentation in Clinton entitled, "Ways to Wow!!!  How to Really Impress Your Customers and Keep Them Coming Back."

       All expenses for Rick Segel are covered by the Missouri Main Street program as a benefit for Clinton Main Street, Inc., an accredited Missouri Main Street program. In addition to the evening presentation, Rick will meet one-on-one with eight businesses for a 45-minute in-store evaluation.

       It is possible that Rick will be available for a second day in Clinton to visit more businesses if we have enough interest. In that case, we would have to find local funding to compensate him. Let the Chamber office know if you are interested in Rick visiting your business.

       Be sure to put Monday evening, March 14, on your calendar. More details will be coming soon!

EcD workshopFundamentals of Economic Development 

     On Tuesday, January 18th Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission along with The Greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce-Economic Development held a Fundamentals of Economic Development workshop.  There were 36 in attendance from numerous communities in  Henry County. 

     The workshop presented an overview of the economic development process using a series of short, focused presentations.  The topics that were covered are similar to the core concepts included in training courses attended by professional economic developers from across the country.   The day began with Austin Mount and Christa Atchison speaking to the group.  The rest of the workshop was lead by a speakers such as Rob O'Brian, Joplin Chamber of Commerce; Mark Dawson, KCP&L; Sharon Gulich, University of Missouri Extension; Austin Mount, Kaysinger; and Chris Chung, Missouri Partnership were present to give lots of useful information about the economic development process.

     Jim Stone, presiding commissioner, stated "This was one of the best workshops I have ever attended.  I gained a lot of useful information and feel like I have a better understanding of the economic development process."

     Kaysinger and GCACC-Economic Development are planning a second workshop for the year April 12th.  It will be geared toward board training and proceeds.  For more information contact Reba Jackman at 660-885-8166.
