February 2011
Greetings!

In this issue of Mentoring Moments we would like to share with you fun Valentine activities, Mentoring on the Hill, and upcoming events.

If you have a Mentoring Moment (a photo of your mentoring match, a favorite quote from your mentee, or a special moment you shared together) please share them with us. We would love to celebrate your mentoring success!

Happy Valentine's Day,
Cassie Gerst / Mentoring Program Coordinator

Visiting the Capitol
Pat and Sydney
On January 27, the Iowa Mentoring Partnership and certified mentoring programs participated in a "Mentoring on the Hill" event at the State Capitol. The event included table displays in the Rotunda as well as time spent with our elected officials.

A Winfield mentoring match was able to join us in Des Moines and take a private tour of the Capitol with Representative David Heaton. A fun day for all!
Activities for February
 Valentine Activities for Mentoring Matches

February 14th may be a holiday generally thought to apply to sweethearts. But what about celebrating the love you have for a parent, aunt, grandparent, or friend?

Valentine's Day may be a perfect time to help your mentee tell someone special, "I care about you". You could help your mentee write a poem, sing a song, draw a Valentine card, make a meal, or help around the house.

How are you funded?
money
The Henry County Mentoring Program has been funded through the Iowa Department of Public Health's Prevention through Mentoring grant. This was a 5-year grant that is coming to an end on June 30, 2011.

Throughout this time we have supported 187 children in Henry County!!

We want to continue to serve the youth in Henry County and are hosting a Fundraising Committee to help us do that. If you would like our program to continue, please stop  by and offer to assist us with a fundraising event.

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 16th at the ISU Extension Office.
If you want to help but cannot attend, just call Cassie at 385-8126.
