 Financial Tools for Success
In 2008, Dress for Success Worldwide piloted the Financial Literacy Program in New York City.  The results were phenomenal!  Starting in April, Financial Literacy Month, the program is rolling out to 13 Dress for Success locations across the country through funding from BNY Mellon and Citi.  Proper knowledge of personal finance, which many of our women lack, is a necessary tool in achieving self-sufficiency.  It was with this vital need in mind that Dress for Success created the Financial Literacy Program.

The program is open to Professional Women's Group members who have demonstrated an interest and commitment to improving their financial lives. Participants are educated on a range of financial topics including budgeting, basic banking, tackling debt issues, taxes, investing, and retirement. Over the course of the Financial Literacy Program, the women will learn how to take control of their income, become strong self-advocates and champion their own financial future.

The outstanding achievements of the pilot program include 100% of participants maintaining a monthly budget, a savings account, a checking account, and an emergency action plan. In addition, many  significantly reduced their debt.

"I had all of these questions about stocks and investing before, but never understood the information that I heard or read about them," shares Vania, a participant of the pilot program. "Dress for Success has given me what I need to know and explained it in a way that makes sense. I could go home tonight and teach my child about this."

Women who complete the Financial Literacy Program will be eligible for the Pursuit Beyond the Suit scholarship program. The scholarship is funded by The AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, and will help recipients achieve their education and life enrichment goals.

A Dress for Success
Success Story
Last year, I found myself unemployed due to the economic downturn.

Despite having a college degree in computer technology, I was struggling to find work. My mother suggested that I seek out Dress for Success for support. I took her advice and became an inaugural member of The Breakfast Club at the Bronx branch of Dress for Success. The Breakfast Club is a networking group of Dress for Success women that meets weekly to assist in the job search process.

As the weeks passed, I became more comfortable sharing my concerns about the interview process with my fellow Breakfast Club members. I have also used the Dress for Success Career Center and tried to learn everything I can with a positive attitude. With the help of Dress for Success, I became motivated to work harder and search smarter.

I appreciate the support and inspiration of everyone I have met through Dress for Success. I am now working as a help desk technician for a non-profit organization. The future is certainly bright!
Unlock Your Shopportunity

In honor of working women, Marshalls, one of the nation's leading off-price retailers, is donating up to $100,000 to Dress for Success Worldwide with its "Unlock Your Shopportunity" program. Consumers across the nation can unlock their own Marshalls shopportunity for a chance to win a $5,000 designer wardrobe for spring on Facebook.  For every key earned,  Marshalls will donate $1, up to $100,000, to Dress for Success Worldwide to create opportunities for women across the country. The online component of the program concludes with a live fashion show unveiling the makeovers of three Dress for Success clients courtesy of celebrity stylist, Robert Verdi, on April 28 in New York City. The fashion show will be broadcast live on Ustream.
