Forgotten Fragments: Art Made from Overlooked Materials
| |
NIAD
551 23rd Street
Gallery Hours 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Ink, paint and clay are conventional art materials. They're easy to acquire and put into immediate action with the right tools. Torn paper bags, outdated newspapers and scraps of bamboo require a bit more forethought, especially when creating sculpture. NIAD artists have been recycling these types of materials into artwork for several months while working with instructor Ruben Guzman, who encouraged them to simply play with materials until something interesting happened. Forgotten Fragments will feature the results of their experimentation in show of abstract and figurative sculpture.

Playland Pals Team walk in the Relay For Life
|
Playland Not-at-the-Beach 10979 San Pablo Avenue Saturday, July 28th Sunday, July 29th Adults $15 Children under 14/Seniors $10 The staff and volunteers of Playland-Not-at-the-Beach are making a difference by teaming up to participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. It is our honor to walk in remembrance of many dear friends, including Playland's founder Richard Tuck, who lost his battle with cancer in April last year. At the event, the "Playland Pals" will be taking turns walking for the 24-hour period. The money and awareness raised will help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Please join us in supporting this cause by joining the Playland Pals Relay Team, cheering the Playland Pals on at the event, or sponsoring a team member or donating to the Playland Pals Team. The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone-so please join us! For more information, to sign up as a team ember, or to contribute to the Relay For Life go to http://main.acsevents.org/goto/PlaylandPals. To contribute by cash or check or for additional information, please contact team captain Kendra Zien 510-232-4264 ext. 30 or kendra@playland-not-at-the-beach.org.

Point Richmond Art Walk Featured Artist Rita Bagley
| |
Point Richmond Post Office
102 Washington Avenue

"The Baltic Picnic is part of my newest series of work. I retrieved a hundred vintage photographs, tiny, diminutive in size, mostly black and white from the 40's, 50's and 60's. A selection of these my paintings are at a hundred times larger than the photo once was. It excites me to edit the composition down to the most intimate viewpoint. After the sepia under painting, I limit the palette to three deliberately chosen contemporary colors for each piece. The process as I apply these paints creates a flow and energy that comes alive with a brilliance of spirit as these images speak. My painterly concept is the catalyst that takes me to the who, what, where and why of these subjects placed in time of what was once a forgotten snapshot. "
