Point Richmond Art Walk Featured Artist Rita Bagley

Point Richmond Post Office
102 Washington Avenue

"The Baltic Picnic is part of my newest series of work. I retrieved a hundred vintage photographs, tiny, diminutive in size, mostly black and white from the 40's, 50's and 60's. A selection of these my paintings are at a hundred times larger than the photo once was. It excites me to edit the composition down to the most intimate viewpoint. After the sepia under painting, I limit the palette to three deliberately chosen contemporary colors for each piece. The process as I apply these paints creates a flow and energy that comes alive with a brilliance of spirit as these images speak. My painterly concept is the catalyst that takes me to the who, what, where and why of these subjects placed in time of what was once a forgotten snapshot. "

Forgotten Fragments: Art Made from Overlooked Materials
| |
NIAD
551 23rd Street
Gallery Hours 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Ink, paint and clay are conventional art materials. They're easy to acquire and put into immediate action with the right tools. Torn paper bags, outdated newspapers and scraps of bamboo require a bit more forethought, especially when creating sculpture. NIAD artists have been recycling these types of materials into artwork for several months while working with instructor Ruben Guzman, who encouraged them to simply play with materials until something interesting happened. Forgotten Fragments will feature the results of their experimentation in show of abstract and figurative sculpture.
