7th Annual Cinco de Mayo Peace and Unity Parade

24th Street/Barrett Avenue

Saturday, May 5th

10:00 am - Noon

The two mile parade, sponsored by the Cities of Richmond and San Pablo, celebrating Peace and Unity, will start at 24th Street/Barrett Avenue in Richmond, and continue along 23rd Street, to reach the destination at San Pablo Civic Center.

The participants and spectators from all over the Bay Area will proudly represent their Mexican heritage along with other cultures and heritages. The Parade will include five or more floats with live traditional Mariachi and Banda music, as well as the blasting sounds from DJ Sonido Eclipse. The parade grows every year, and is expected to have over 1500 participants this year, including many children from local schools, as well as civic groups and other youth groups. The end of the Parade will feature the popular Dancing Horses, dancing to Drum music,

The Grand Marshall this year will be Congressman George Miller, of the 7th Congressional District. He was chosen by the Cinco de Mayo Committee as part of the theme of Peace and Unity, because as Congressman, he has made great contributions to the educational and health advancements of Latinos and the community in general. Mr. Miller is a product of the Richmond area and has been participating in the parade for many years. While the Committee offered to provide him different types of transportation for the parade, he will be riding in a classic car followed by youth from the Richmond Police Activities League and Richmond Little League Baseball teams, as he has in past years.

John Marquez, Co-Chair of the Parade Committee commented that "Richmond and San Pablo's Cinco de Mayo parade and local celebrations have developed into landmark family event highlighting the multi-cultural heritage of these two cities. I'm looking forward to yet another safe, alcohol free, and successful celebrations by our combined communities this year."

For further information contact: Parade Co-Chairs John Marquez, Former Richmond City Council Member, (510) 612-2604, or Genoveva Garcia-Calloway, San Pablo City Council Member, (510) 384-6555.
