"To Have and Have Not"
The film is set in Fort de France, Martinique, under the Vichy regime in the summer of 1940, shortly after the fall of France. In this exotic location, the world-weary fishing-boat captain Harry Morgan (Humphrey Bogart) is urged to help the French Resistance smuggle some people onto the island. He refuses, until the client, Johnson (Walter Sande), who has been hiring out his fishing boat (and owes him $825) is shot before paying him.
The hotel owner Gerard, commonly known as Frenchy (Marcel Dalio), asks Harry to rent him his boat for one night to transport some members of the resistance. Broke, Harry ends up smuggling Helene (Dolores Moran) and Paul de Bursac (Walter Szurovy). Meanwhile, a romance develops between Harry and Marie ("Slim") Browning (Lauren Bacall), an American wanderer who has come to the island.

Who is Irma Vep? That's the mystery at the heart of this outrageously funny tour-de-force. On a "dark and stormy night," Lady Enid arrives at an estate with her new husband, who is under the spell of his deceased first wife and haunted by something that's prowling the grounds. Strange things begin to happen around her and she soon discovers the mystery of Irma Vep, whose portrait hangs over the fireplace. A hilarious comedy that satirizes everything from Hitchcock and Victorian Melodrama to the great horror films of the golden age...

Bay Area Artists Host Free Region-wide Community Art Event
|
The San Francisco Bay Area will be buzzing with creativity on September 2, 2011 during the first official Take 5: Art Break Day. Hosted by Art is Moving, this free public event encourages attendees to "Take an Art Break" and provides supplies and a space to create art.
The event will occur simultaneously in five different Bay Area cities - San Francisco, San Rafael, Richmond, Berkeley, and Oakland - and will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Canopied booths and tables will be set up in the downtown area of each city and will provide free access to art supplies, including paint brushes, paper, pencils, paints, and crayons. Everyone is welcome to have a seat and make art for free.
Take 5: Art Break Day aims to encourage people to take a momentary break to create free art. According to Lisa Rasmussen, co-founder of Art is Moving, "creating art together in a public space encourages dialog between strangers and allows everyone the opportunity to discover the power of art. Rarely in our busy lives do we make room for it."
No prior art-making experience is necessary to attend the event. "Anyone can make art. One of the reasons we're hosting this event is to help those who have never had the chance to try making art realize that they can," says Lauren Odell Usher, another Art is Moving co-founder.

Chevron Community Tour Day
|
Dear Community Member,
We are pleased to announce that Chevron Richmond Refinery is hosting the second annual Community Tour Day on Saturday, September 10, 2011, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Building on the success of last year's Community Tour Day, the second annual Community Tour Day is part of an effort to continue to provide information about the refinery's operations, safety and environmental performance.
Since 1902, Chevron has been a proud member of the Richmond community. It is very important to Chevron and our employees to play a positive role in the community and to be good neighbors. That means keeping our operations safe, investing millions of dollars in support for local community organizations and volunteerism. Over the past few years, we have worked hard to build strong relationships with the city of Richmond and remain committed to being open and transparent with the community.
If you would like more information or would like to sign up for the tour, please call 510-242-2000, or click here.
