RSVP 415-485-1661

You are invited to hear fantastic flute fusion jazz, soul & blues with the Matt Eakle Band on Sun. afternoon, July 10, 2-4:30 pm, in the beautiful native plant garden of Shirley & Tom Butt on Nicholl Knob in Point Richmond.  Many of you know Matt is a Point Richmond native, son of Jean and Jim Eakle, and brother of violinist Kit Eakle.  Matt has traveled the world as flutist for the David Grisman Band for over 20 years.  Matt has also been featured with Chris Isaac, Jerry Garcia, Alison Brown and many others, but you've never heard Matt Eakle fire up the flute like he does in his own band. With Alex Baum on bass, Jack Dorsey on drums, and Joey Edelman on keyboards, the Matt Eakle Band highlights the history of four musicians whose synergy is a force of nature.

"Chase The Tear" Art Exhibit

NIAD Art Center

551 23rd Street

Art Show: June 20th - August 19th

Chase The Tear is the final installment in a three-part exhibition series, Life of The World To Come, that presents a preview of a future where work from disabled artists is viewed in the same light as pieces and projects from artists who may not have a diagnosis extreme enough to qualify them as "other." In reality, however, the show is not breaking new ground so much as making visible what is already underway. Artists with disabilities - from Willem De Kooning to Chuck Close - are already a part of the contemporary art world. But Close and De Kooning were already established before becoming disabled. The next logical step in the opening up of the contemporary art world would be the inclusion of artists with disabilities based on the quality of their work, but without the requirement of a prior pedigree.

Inspiration - Richmond Art Center Faculty Show

It all began with a woman and a suitcase. The Richmond Art Center began with founder Hazel Salmi's determination to meet the needs of people to "...exercise their innate abilities for creative expression" by carrying her art supplies around Richmond in a suitcase. 75 years later, we celebrate and showcase the work of the Richmond Art Center's core faculty: professional artists who fill our studios with inspiration and continue the legacy of offering accessible and engaging art education for all ages.

The Musical of Musicals

(The Musical!)

Masquers Playhouse

105 Park Place

Through July 9th

All seats $20

Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm

What if all of your favorite musicals were rolled together into one compact über-show? This crowd pleaser is a melting pot of musical bliss that manipulates the classic "I can't pay the rent!" story in five acts. Each act references and parodies the style of Broadway's brightest: Rodgers & Hammerstein (Oklahoma!), Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd), Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!), Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera), and Kander & Ebb (Cabaret). This smash will keep you laughing from start to finish with sharp wit and puckish energy.
