Overview of the Mayan Calendar System and 2012

The NeXus
1414 Harbour Way South Suite 100
Wednesday, June 15th
7:00pm - 10:00pm
Advance tickets $25 - available only at: www.HarmonyFestival.com At the Door $35 - if available
With Carl Johan Calleman, world renowned expert on the Mayan Calendar, currently sharing about the 9th Wave and 2012.
This workshop gives an overview of the Mayan calendar system and explains how evolution in all of its aspects is driven by shifts of energies emanating from the Tree of Life. The large scale Nine Underworlds and the Thirteen Heavens are reflections of the sacred Mayan calendar. Their daily energies lead us to understand how the Mayan calendar actually describes a climb to higher and higher levels of consciousness. The prophetic nature of the calendar and its seemingly mysterious potential for making predictions to the future is explained. Carl has become the only professional scientist to demonstrate that the evolution of biology, history and consciousness reflects the Mayan calendar. As a world-renowned expert on this subject, he has lectured in twenty countries and collaborated with Mayan elders, which has notably resulted in a filmed interview with Don Alejandro Oxlaj (2006) presenting the contemporary Mayans views of their calendar.

See Legendary Singer/Songwriter/Storyteller Rosalie Sorrels

First United Methodist Church
201 Martina Street (corner W Richmond Avenue)
Friday, June 17th
8:00 pm
Tickets $15 at the door
Some memorable quotes from those who knew her best: Hunter S. Thompson called her "One king-hell songwriter... Rosalie's songs are so close to the bone that I get nervous listening to them;" Studs Terkel said "Rosalie Sorrels sings songs the way you've always hoped they'd be sung: Deeply felt, effortlessly, and altogether lovely;" and the late Malvina Reynolds said "She is such a rollicking anti-hero, such a gusty woman, adventurous, curious, and ironically optomistic... The woman is a first rate poet-songwriter, a great performer, and a genius storyteller, and her life is rich with experience that informs everything she does." And a Rolling Stone magazine reviewer wrote: "Rosalie Sorrels, who must know a million songs, can sing each one as if it's her life story.' See www.rosaliesorrels.com for more info.
Rosalie returns to this venue during June when she will also be performing at the Annual Kate Wolf Festival in Laytonville, and at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. Rosalie's 25th album "Strangers in Another Country: The Songs of Bruce "Utah" Phillips" was nominated for a Grammy as Best Traditional Folk Album in 2005. Among her numerous awards, Rosalie was the recipient of her hometown Boise (Idaho) Peace Quilt Project in 2001.

The Musical of Musicals
(The Musical!)

Masquers Playhouse
105 Park Place
Through July 9th
All seats $20
Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm
Sunday matinees at 2 pm on June 19th & 26th
What if all of your favorite musicals were rolled together into one compact über-show? This crowd pleaser is a melting pot of musical bliss that manipulates the classic "I can't pay the rent!" story in five acts. Each act references and parodies the style of Broadway's brightest: Rodgers & Hammerstein (Oklahoma!), Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd), Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!), Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera), and Kander & Ebb (Cabaret). This smash will keep you laughing from start to finish with sharp wit and puckish energy.

On May 26th, at Chevron's annual shareholders meeting, a video was shown that featured Chevron's community engagement activities in Richmond. The video underscores Chevron's role as a community member and highlights some of the great programs we are privileged to participate in. Being a good neighbor is a job we have always taken seriously, from our commitment to safe operations to providing support for community programs and schools. We especially want to thank Sal Vaca, Director of Employment and Training for Richmond; Helen Nichols, GRIP board member; Joan Davis, President of the Richmond Community Foundation; Dr. Bruce Harter, Superintendent of West Contra Costa Unified School District; and Nathan Trivers, owner of the Up and Under pub for their participation in the video and for their fellowship.
Watch for Richmond Convention & Visitors Bureau Board member Nathan Trivers on the video, which can be viewed here.
