Healing with Music

The NeXus

1414 Harbour Way South Suite 100

Thursday, June 2nd

6:00pm

Potluck dinner and presentation by an English explorer on the effects of music to promote healing. Clare is coming to the Bay Area to teach Creativity and Innovation at SFSU, and she will take this evening to share her passion with us.

Clare Hedin has spent many years as a healer, performer and teacher of sound and consciousness. She has taught at California Institute of Psychoacoustics and currently teaches privately both in San Francisco, Bay Area, and Glastonbury, UK - a place known as the Heart Chakra - as well as being a visiting lecturer on 'Creativity & Innovation' at San Francisco State University, for degree level business students. She also spent many years in active relationship to Oakland Children's Hospital where she took in her original music to help children, families and staff connect with the healing powers of their hearts in times of stress. An avid explorer of Consciousness and Sound, she also holds an awareness of how sound relates to the environment, our intelligence and our health and well being both within ourselves and in communication with each other.

Life of the World to Come: Darkness Falls Upon Us

NIAD

551 23rd Street

Through June 3rd

Darkness Falls Upon Us is the second in a three-part exhibition series, Life of The World To Come, that presents a preview of a future where work from disabled artists is viewed in the same light as pieces and projects from artists who may not have a diagnosis extreme enough to qualify them as "other." In reality, however, the show is not breaking new ground so much as making visible what is already underway. Artists with disabilities - from Willem De Kooning to Chuck Close - are already a part of the contemporary art world. But Close and De Kooning were already established before becoming disabled. The next logical step in the opening up of the contemporary art world would be the inclusion of artists with disabilities based on the quality of their work, but without the requirement of a prior pedigree.

Being a Good Neighbor...

On May 26th, at Chevron's annual shareholders meeting, a video was shown that featured Chevron's community engagement activities in Richmond. The video underscores Chevron's role as a community member and highlights some of the great programs we are privileged to participate in. Being a good neighbor is a job we have always taken seriously, from our commitment to safe operations to providing support for community programs and schools. We especially want to thank Sal Vaca, Director of Employment and Training for Richmond; Helen Nichols, GRIP board member; Joan Davis, President of the Richmond Community Foundation; Dr. Bruce Harter, Superintendent of West Contra Costa Unified School District; and Nathan Trivers, owner of the Up and Under pub for their participation in the video and for their fellowship.

Watch for Richmond Convention & Visitors Bureau Board member Nathan Trivers on the video, which can be viewed  here.
