Life of The World To Come: Twist and Crawl
| |
NIAD
551 23rd Street
Monday - Friday
9:00 am - 4:00 pm, or by appointment
Shattering the conventions that have until now segregated artists with disabilities from their mainstream contemporaries, Twist and Crawl blends more than 30 works culled from artists and galleries across the country with those from the National Institute of Art and Disabilities studio program.
Twist and Crawl is the first in a three-part exhibition series, Life of The World To Come, that presents a preview of a future where work from disabled artists is viewed in the same light as pieces and projects from artists who may not have a diagnosis extreme enough to qualify them as "other." In reality, however, the show is not breaking new ground so much as making visible what is already underway. Artists with disabilities - from Willem De Kooning to Chuck Close - are already a part of the contemporary art world. But Close and De Kooning were already established before becoming disabled. The next logical step in the opening up of the contemporary art world would be the inclusion of artists with disabilities.

The Masquers Playhouse
105 Park Place
January 21st through February 26th
Purchase tickets here.
by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa;
directed by Patricia Inabnet
Our 2011 Season kicks off with this celebration of the uncanny: Two intertwined one act plays in the style of Hitchcock and The Twilight Zone begin our season. In the first play, a director of horror films survives a terrible train wreck only to be haunted by the ghost of one of the passengers who didn't survive. In the second, Abby and Joe travel to a small town in rural Oregon to make peace with the man who murdered her parents and younger sister. The Mystery Plays wrestle with the most profound of human ideas: the mysteries of death, the afterlife, religion, faith, and forgiveness. |

You will see Bette, an outdoor enthusiast, hiking the hills or kayaking on the shores of Point Richmond. She is an avid supporter of local trails and regional parks. She has contributed her digital images to the community in support of preserving the beauty and history of our community. She is the recipient of the City of Richmond Historic Preservation Award and is a founding member of Arts of Point Richmond.
Bette is the creator of the logo well known to all artists and viewers.
liza Allan
"When my 3 children were young and I needed time away from the house, I went to a San Francisco Parks & Recreation ceramic class & got "hooked" on the potter's wheel. I love to make functional pieces as well as making a form on the wheel, taking it from the wheel & then "altering" it. Without finding my ability to express myself creatively, my childhood could have become unfulfilled. Without art, I could not have educated myself in other ways."
liza Allen was featured in Architectural Digest Magazine in a photo of Alice Water's kitchen with custom tile by liza Allen Tile & Clay. She has shown her work in juried ceramics shows in Antioch, California & was awarded the Los Medanos College "Best of Show" award. She has been in the Pro Arts in the Bay Area & recently participated in the Richmond Art Center Holiday Arts Fair.
