Point Richmond Acoustic presents Ace Acoustic Guitarist Stevie Coyle
| First United Methodist Church 201 Martina Avenue Friday, January 14th 8:00pm $12.50 per person $10 for seniors and students
Point Richmond Acoustic Music continues its fall concert series on Friday, January 14th. Singer songwriter Caren Armstrong opens the show. More information is available at www.folkunlimited.com. Coyle is best known as a former member of the popular Bay Area band, the Waybacks, and is also perhaps the Bay Area's most sought after finger style guitar teacher as well as a regular contributor to Acoustic Guitar magazine. Coyle's first solo CD, Ten In One, demonstrates Coyle's eclectic abilities. He could easily play it straight and perform acoustic ditties a la Leo Kotke. But Coyle's witty and quirky songwriting and deadpan vocals add another layer to Coyles's music and add depth to his live shows. Says Point Richmond Acoustic promoter Bruce Kaplan: "Stevie has a devoted following of fans, and its easy to see why. He's a great guitar player, and a completely charming performer." Opener Caren Armstrong is no stranger to Bay Area audiences. A singer, Songwriter and record producer, Armstrong emcees the long running Celebrating Songwriter series, the Bay Area's longest running showcase for songwriters. Her guitar work, catchy melodies and heartfelt songs have drawn audiences from the Bay Area to her native Texas. The Point Richmond First Methodist Church is an intimate place for concerts, and music is an important of its program. Built more than one 100 years ago, the hexagonal shaped sanctuary accentuates the up close and personal nature of the music. Point Richmond Acoustic is co-sponsored by Point Richmond Music, Folk Unlimited and the First Methodist Church of Point Richmond. |

Life of The World To Come: Twist and Crawl
| |
NIAD
551 23rd Street
Monday - Friday
9:00 am - 4:00 pm, or by appointment
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 22, 2-5pm
THE FIRST IN A THREE-PART SERIES OF EXHIBITIONS
ORGANIZED BY TIMOTHY BUCKWALTER
OFFERING A BROADER VIEW OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Shattering the conventions that have until now segregated artists with disabilities from their mainstream contemporaries, Twist and Crawl blends more than 30 works culled from artists and galleries across the country with those from the National Institute of Art and Disabilities studio program.
Twist and Crawl is the first in a three-part exhibition series, Life of The World To Come, that presents a preview of a future where work from disabled artists is viewed in the same light as pieces and projects from artists who may not have a diagnosis extreme enough to qualify them as "other." In reality, however, the show is not breaking new ground so much as making visible what is already underway. Artists with disabilities - from Willem De Kooning to Chuck Close - are already a part of the contemporary art world. But Close and De Kooning were already established before becoming disabled. The next logical step in the opening up of the contemporary art world would be the inclusion of artists with disabilities

The Masquers Playhouse
105 Park Place
January 21st through February 26th
Purchase tickets here.
by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa;
directed by Patricia Inabnet
Our 2011 Season kicks off with this celebration of the uncanny: Two intertwined one act plays in the style of Hitchcock and The Twilight Zone begin our season. In the first play, a director of horror films survives a terrible train wreck only to be haunted by the ghost of one of the passengers who didn't survive. In the second, Abby and Joe travel to a small town in rural Oregon to make peace with the man who murdered her parents and younger sister. The Mystery Plays wrestle with the most profound of human ideas: the mysteries of death, the afterlife, religion, faith, and forgiveness. |
