Richmond Art Center Update by Virginia Rigney Arts and Crafts Professional, Richmond Art Center Board Past President "Art is a universal way of communicating. I have seen the power of art truly change lives." Virginia is a supporting member of AOPR and has been responsible for programs to get public art in Richmond. She has exhibited in several galleries and has graced our exhibits with her beautiful ceramic sculptures since 2008. Art Talk by Inez Brooks-Meyers Curator of Costume and Textiles for the Oakland Museum of California Author of History in hand: Fans from the collections of the Oakland Museum Inez will discuss the wonderful new galleries that opened on May 1, 2010, including the Great Hall Exhibit (the museum's largest exhibition space) featuring The Pixar Exhibition; this exhibition will be at the museum until January 9, 2011. Point Richmond residents and AOPR members will remember the delightful images on the windows of Pixar when they were located on Cutting Blvd. at Garrard Blvd. She'll lure you to the exhibition and the programs of the Oakland Museum. She recommends viewing the exhibit at the Oakland International Airport during the holiday season where another exhibition, "From Pencils to Pixels", was created in partnership with Pixar. |

This internationally acclaimed East Bay choir is a non-profit, community-based, multi-racial and generational, social justice choir that sings South African freedom songs in Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho and English, besides gospel, spirituals, civil rights and labor songs. They sing to inspire, and also to raise funds for AIDS related and youth related projects primarily in Southern Africa and also in the Oakland-SF Bay Area. They are now in their 25th year, and have produced/released several CDs, and a triple-Emmy award winning DVD. They've performed throughout California, across the U.S., and on two cultural tours through South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique. They have also performed twice with Nelson Mandela- in June 1990 when they performed on stage with him at the Oakland Coliseum following his release from 27 years in prison, and most recently last April when he hosted them at the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Come and hear the rhythm of history for their only performance at the Richmond Art Center. |

A well-respected comedian whose been compared to a tornado on amphetamines. His high-energy comedy act is both outrageous and hysterically original. Some of his many credits include writing for and working with such comedic legends as Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams and Rodney Dangerfield.
Followed by Emily Heller Emily Heller has performed stand-up all over the country and is a regular at the San Francisco Punch Line. Followed by Marcus Miles Born and raised in Richmond, Marcus has appeared at clubs all over the bay area such as Tommy Ts, Kimballs Carnival, Rooster T. Feathers and the 821 Lounge. Followed by Dan Machanik Dan is a true globetrotter and loves the action. Whether on stage doing stand up, pitching brands he's helped create to global retailers, skiing the steep and deep in Aspen or diving with the sharks in Thailand-he approaches each day with deep passion and high energy.

1st Annual Project Overcoat Campaign
| | The Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP) is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Project Overcoat Campaign, a coat drive designed to collect new and gently used coats and blankets for more than 200 homeless men, women and children. This year's event is sponsored by Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries. The Project Overcoat campaign begins on Monday, November 8-Friday, December 3, 2010. Coats & blankets may be conveniently dropped off Monday- Saturday from 8am-5pm at two Wilson & Kratzer locations: Civic Center Chapel, 455 24th Street, Richmond, CA 94804 and Mission Bells Chapel, 13644 San Pablo Avenue, San Pablo, CA 94806.
