Alberta Underwater eNews
ALBERTA UNDERWATER COUNCIL eNEWS September 2009
Greetings!

Welcome to the exciting first edition of the new format of AUC's eNEWS.  Our goal to bring timely news of interest to Alberta divers & underwater sports enthusiasts.

In AUC eNEWS, you'll find information on and reminders about upcoming events and news of interest to satisfy your continued participation and passion for the sport of everything underwater - scuba diving, snorkeling, underwater hockey, rugby, free diving, within the province and around the world!

We'll still deliver to your mailing address our quarterly print newsletter that will include more in-depth articles that are less time sensitive as well as information on our operations, board news, dive safety, articles of interest to divers and member notices. In the AUC eNEWS you'll find the latest news about upcoming AUC events, dive & underwater clubs, environmental issues, exotic travel destinations and opportunities for you to participate.

Whether you dive locally or prefer warm, tropical dive destinations,  the AUC eNEWS will help provide information to Alberta underwater community monthly.  Its format is designed for you to quickly scan and follow up on any article, event or news announcement on underwater environment at your leisure.

We're working diligently to create a new dynamic website for the Alberta Underwater Council and its members.  With many exciting features for you to enjoy now - like on-line registration for membership & events (get your tickets for the upcoming DIVESCAPES Conference) to other member friendly tools to be added over the upcoming winter!

Happy Diving and thank you for your support!

Safety News: Banff's Marker Buoy System
- an AUC supported safety progam especially for divers
Lake MinnewankaYour membership fees help support dive safety projects such as the Banff Marker Buoy Safety System at Lake Minnewanka that marks the 1912 dam, bridge piling, and plaque dive sites.
In the last few years, volunteer divers lead by Warren Robinson, working with Parks Canada and the AUC, redesigned these marker buoys and spent nearly $5000 to help keep the area's active boating community at bay - by creating a great safety barrier - away from the divers.

Watch for news on the Dive Flag Safety Signs for Boaters at Alberta marinas and boat launches in the October AUC eNEWS.
