Over the past few weeks, I have heard many parents' concerns regarding the budget crisis our school district is facing. Helplessness, frustration, anger, and confusion have all been expressed in regards to how the financial cuts will impact our school for many years to come. People want to know what they can do to stop the cuts, to save what is important to their families.
We may not be able to stop every cut,
but we can have our voices heard.
Stay aware of LBUSD budget talks by checking regularly on the district website.
LBUSD Budget Update Page
Well...Each and every one of us have something we can and MUST do!
Within the next 2 weeks, our state legislators will be voting to put a measure on the June ballot to extend, for five years, the temporary taxes that are due to expire. By maintaining those taxes, the proposed cuts into education funding will be greatly reduced. Librarians, music programs, student athletic programs, counselors, nurses...the list goes on and on...may be saved by the continuation of these taxes.
Join PTA members from all over California and advocate for our children. Call your state legislators today! Let them know you want the opportunity for the voters to choose whether or not to maintain those taxes. Have your say! Let your children have a say; help them write a letter to their state senator or assemblywoman.
Senator: Alan Lowenthal (562) 495-4766
Assemblywoman: Bonnie Lowenthal
(562) 495-2915

Please follow the link to watch a video statement of the California PTA Legislative Director. Hear what she has to say and do what you can to help not only our school, not only the schools in LBUSD, but all of the schools throughout this state.

Teacher of the Year
Essay Contest
Fremont's teachers are the main reason that this is such an amazing school! How about taking the time to recognize one or more of the teachers your child has been fortunate to have during their time here? You can do so by submitting an essay to the annual Teacher of the Year Essay Contest, sponsored by the Long Beach Council PTA. Essays may be written by a parent or student...or a joint effort! Even alumni students looking back fondly on their time at Fremont can submit an entry. Take the time to let a teacher know what they have meant to your child/family and how much you appreciate them. All entries will be shared with the appropriate teacher, who will certainly be grateful for your thoughts.
There are very specific topics to address in your essay, so please review the Essay Requirements here.
All entries are due by 2:30pm on Wednesday, April 6, in the PTA mailbox, located in the office. The selected essay will be sent to the Long Beach Council PTA for further consideration. |

Fremont Community Partner Spotlight
I'm Timothy Collier, owner of "The Green Plumber". I've been in doing business in Long Beach since 1994, and happen to be a third generation plumbing shop owner. I live and run my business here. The Green Plumber is a full service plumbing shop.
One of our experienced service technicians will deliver a "rolling warehouse" to your home or business in a timely manner and greet you with our company ID. Before entering your home, our technician will cover their shoes with shoe covers. After diagnosing your plumbing or drain problems, the technician will quote you an EXACT price for the needed repairs. [No Pricing surprises at the completion of our work]. We will perform quality work, and provide a two year parts and labor warranty for ALL services that we have provided. We will clean up after ourselves and we will offer an annual "Green Visit", to make sure your plumbing is in proper working order. |
