Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Driskill & the Author of the Winning Teacher of the Year Essay!

Cindy Rogan, parent of Erika, wrote a very thoughtful and thorough essay about Mrs. Driskill for the Long Beach Council PTA Teacher of the Year Essay Contest.  Cindy's essay spoke of Mrs. Driskill's many talents, including her keen ability to determine the individual needs of her students and create  specific work plan for each of them.  Cindy wrote, "She puts her heart, soul and years of experience into every day of the year. She understands the uniqueness of each child she teaches, and with that in mind, works with parents and all available resources to make sure that child is doing their best."  Congratulations to you both, Cindy and Mrs. Driskill!  Cindy's essay will move forward to represent Fremont in the Long Beach Council Essay Contest.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's contest!  Fifteen essays were submitted, all with wonderful sentiments about Fremont's teachers.
Congratulations to Mrs. Driskill & the Author of the Winning Teacher of the Year Essay!

COMMUNITY MARKET

On April 17, 2010 we held our first Community Market on the Fremont playground; in addition we also hosted a fine E-Waste disposal program, our always successful book fair, a bake sale and Boy Scout's pancake breakfast.

Long before this date though, there were vendors to be sourced, permits to be obtained and a concerted marketing effort to get the word out in the community. Our first vendors came courtesy of Priscilla Monserrate-Sander's extensive online network, and some grassroots efforts by Marky Morel. At that time it seemed daunting - the prospect of getting even 10 vendors; in the end we got 40 vendors and struggled to fit them in the available space on the playground for booths!

We hope to repeat "this great feat" during the upcoming holiday season, where Fremont parents and the community will get a chance to patronize local businesses and get a break on some choice items for the giving season!

Time for thanks: Marky for leading this effort and supplying those fabulous tomatoes; Priscilla for the early start; Tina and Shevaughn @ the book sale, the Fremont Boy Scout community, David Aimerito "on the mike"! and everyone else who made an invaluable contribution to the success on that day. It was said "it couldn't be done" but we did it!, and it was said "it wouldn't make any money" - $4,000.00, and $8,000.00 counting matching funds from Laserfiche - but it did!
