Principal's Message Days of Taste1
As we progress through the year, we at Fremont Elementary School are continually searching for ways that we can support our students. Part of the process has been the parent/teacher conferences where you and your child's teacher have been able to discuss successes and make plans for the rest of the year. There are also two committee groups that address how our school can best support student achievement. They are the School Site Council and the English Learner Advisory Committee.
The School Site Council is an opportunity for parents, community members, and school site personnel to work together in designing new educational plans, allocating funds for programs that support student achievement, and gaining an overall knowledge of the school community. The committee is made up of five parents or community members and five school staff members. This group is involved in assessing school needs using data information, setting and prioritizing goals based on the needs, reviewing and making recommendations on the school's plan to support student achievement, and reviewing budget allocations from special funding sources. The School Site Council is an active part of our school community.
The purpose of the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English language learners. This group meets at least four times through the school year and is involved in discussions regarding district programs, the school site budget, the importance of regular attendance, and reviewing the school's plan to support student achievement. ELAC provides valuable input and ideas to more effectively address the needs of our English language learner students and their families.
Parents and community members are welcome to attend School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings. The next meeting for School Site Council is Tuesday, December 15 at 7:15 a.m. in the school library.

Holiday Teacher-Staff Luncheon

The annual teacher and staff luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, December 10th.This is our opportunity to express our appreciation during the Holiday Season.

We will be making our traditional Holiday fruit and nut mix for them to take.We are requesting donations of coated fruits, nuts, etc. to include in our mix.We would prefer items like chocolate covered cherries and fruits, toffee cashews, regular cashews, whole almonds, etc... (Trader Joe's is an excellent place to purchase these items.) We would like to stay away from smaller items like sunflower seeds and peanuts.

There will be a marked box in the PTA room (across from the Library)starting on Monday, December 7th through Wednesday, December 9th.You may turn in your treats at any point during that time. We will be packaging the mix on Wednesday afternoon so all items must be in at that point.

We will be setting up for the luncheon and packaging the Holiday mix on Wednesday after school. If you would like to help set up, we would welcome your assistance. We will also need help with clean up on Thursday afternoon. We usually begin clean up at about 1:30. If you have anyquestions, please contact Marcia Lee mlemmon.lee@verizon.net or Kim Foley kimberleyspcs@msn.com.

Thank you to everyone for all of the help you always give!

Salvation Army's Adopt-A-Family

Feel like carrying on the spirit of Thanksgiving? Share with others the blessings you are grateful for?

During the holidays, the Salvation Army works to provide gifts to underprivileged children through their adopt-a-family program, as well as food for a holiday meal. During an average year, about 1,000 families seek help getting gifts for their children. This year, 1,500 families have signed up for the program! Unfortunately, the need far overshadows the number of people offering to help, currently.

Can you help? Would you consider adopting a family? You may select the number of people in the family, as well as request certain ages for children. Perhaps you can partner up with friends or members of your extended family to adopt a family? Involve your children in the process of selecting the gifts and getting the food. It will be an experience of a lifetime!

If you are interested in this highly rewarding opportunity, contact Bobbi Robb, the Adopt-a-Family Coordinator for the Salvation Army, at 426-7637. She's been at this for years and can answer any questions you may have. Should you decide to adopt a family, she will match you with one and provide you with a "wish-list."

If adopting a family seems too much, how about purchasing some toys to donate? Fremont Alumnae Girl Scout Cadets are conducting a toy drive on campus. You can drop off new, unwrapped toys/books/games in the office or in KidsClub. Anything you can offer would be gratefully received.

Holiday Food Drive

Our school will once again participate in the Holiday Food Drive. Collections began October 19 and will continue until December 11. Due to a much larger need this year, the collection period has been extended. Please bring in any non-perishable goods you can throughout the timeframe. Most needed are canned fruits and veggies, canned meats like stew, hash, spam, canned pasta in sauce, powdered milk, cereal, peanut butter (not in glass jars), juice boxes, instant potatoes and instant stuffing. There will be a large cardboard box in your classroom for your donations which will be emptied regularly.
Toy Drive
 November 23 - December 15

Girl Scout Cadet Troop 2633 and Fremont alumnae, Michelle Tanaka and Emily Tanaka are sponsoring a toy drive on campus from November 23 through December 15. While new, unwrapped toys are appreciated for
all ages of children, there is a particular need for gifts for children 11-14 years of age. Look for the flyer/posters to come out with more details. A collection box will be located in the office and other locations through out the school.

Fremont Family Day at the Movies Returns!

Star Wars
Hold the date everyone, fun at the movies returns just after the holidays.  The Fremont family travels back to a galaxy far, far away on January 10th, to see The Empire Strikes Back!  Come and enjoy the rare opportunity to see Luke, Darth Vader, Han, Princess Leia and the 'droids on the big screen.  Sure you know the main points by now.  Luke travels to Dagoba to get training from Master Yoda while Han and Leia seek help from Han's old friend and known scoundrel, Lando Calrissian.  It's a trap and Han ends up as Luke-bait while stored in carbonite.  Knowing the dialog just makes all the better to join in the action.

We'll have a cartoon to start things off so you better get there on time.  Remember to grab a bag of popcorn, a friend or two and head to the Art Theater at 2025 E 4th St.  Doors will open at 10:30.  There will be post-holiday-friendly family discounts so everyone can come. Tickets go on sale later this month. See you there.
