 Greetings!
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!   I hope that everyone had a relaxing summer.  Our message this year is that we want you and we will take what we can get.   Whatever time, talent, wisdom and/ or financial support that you are willing to give, we want and need.

As you know the state of California and Long Beach Unified School District are in a financial crisis.   This means it is more important than ever that you get involved in your child's education by joining the PTA.     Membership information will be going home in your child's backpack today.   Membership gives you a voice in the organization that is the single largest donor to  Fremont Elementary - the PTA.   For more information on PTA membership check out the Membership FAQ.

It is critical that parents volunteer in classrooms.   Since all the funding for teachers aides has been cut we need to  support our hard working teachers.   They need our time and talents in the classroom and our children love seeing us there.  If you can't volunteer consistently try coming in for a class party, event or field trip.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer with our PTA programs and fundraisers. We have jobs for all levels of commitment.  If you want to run a program or just volunteer at a single event, we have the job for you.    Please contact Jenny Ainley jainley@gmail.com our VP of Programs and and she can help you find the volunteer opportunity that is right for you.

Despite the budget cuts the PTA will continue to sponsor educational and enriching programs for our students and their families.   Please join us at our 1st PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 6:30pm in auditorium.   PTA Meeting Agenda.   We will be discussing programs, membership and voting on our budget for the school year.

Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions, concerns or suggestions.  president@fremont-pta.org.

Sincerely,
Susan Tanaka

Box Tops
  As the saying goes, "Time flies." It seems like yesterday that we were bidding our fifth graders farewell and packing up for summer. Now we are already welcoming families with the excitement and anticipation of a new school year. We also have some new faces joining our staff for the new year who include counselor Melissa Espinoza, school psychologist Phoung Le, and cafeteria supervisor Lisa Matheson. Although not a new face to Fremont, Jennifer Durazzo will be making her return to the classroom as one of our fourth grade teachers. Please give these new additions to the Fremont Family a warm welcome.

As the school year gets under way, remember to take care when dropping off and picking up your child at school. Use the valet parking by the cafeteria in the morning and be greeted with a cheerful welcome and bright smile. In the afternoon be sure to check the signs for parking restrictions. Let's also be a good neighbor and be careful not to block driveways. In fact, consider walking to school with your child when you can and get to spend valuable time together and receive exercise in the process. Have a most successful and safe school year.

Alice
This year's show is Alice in Wonderland Junior. Follow us down the rabbit hole and join Alice's adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Fremont's production will be on Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm at the Wilson High Auditorium.

The show is two months earlier than previous years so auditions (10/4) and rehearsals (beginning 12/3) will be earlier too.

Jog-a-thon
  SAVE THE DATE!!!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 20th, for the 7th Annual Jog-A-Thon! This healthy, school-wide "fun"raiser is Fremont PTA's largest fundraiser. All of the proceeds raised go directly toward funding numerous programs at the school, such as drama, art programs, library books, field trips, school beautification, and contributions to teachers' classrooms. Last year's Jog-A-thon raised over $40,000.00! We know our hardworking students, parents, teachers, and staff can do that again this year, and will have a great time doing it!

Look for Jog-A-Thon sponsor envelopes, permission slips, and volunteer forms to come home in the backpacks in early October. There are lots of opportunities to help out! If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Williams 438-2141/ jennlwilliams@verizon.net.

We hope to see you on October 20th!

We want you!  Room Parents Needed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The new school year is upon us and your help is needed! Volunteer to be a room parent in your childs' classroom. It's a great way to contribute to your child's classroom, bond with their teacher and get to know other Fremont parents and students. No experience is necessary; a guide book and orientation is available and the benefits are extremely rewarding. There were sign-up sheets in your childs' classroom on Back-to-School Night. For more information, email Michelle Pryor at mmad7@yahoo.com. Thank you!
Ms. Karona
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miss Karona has been a constant at Fremont for the last 11 years. This year she will be starting a new adventure as the nutrition service supervisor at Helen Keller Elementary.

For many families Miss Karona was a member of their family. Her energy, smile and love for the children was always present. She made the children feel important, loved and special. She worked with the PTA & staff to provide many of her talents to our events. She personally held special events for the students at Fremont. The fashion show, Cinco De Mayo and cookie day events were among the many festivities she planned for the students.

She will be missed for many reasons but, I for one will miss her talents as a friend and let's face it, the woman can rock the baked goods!
