Bring that old Sewing Machine back to life with a few simple tips.
If you own a Vintage Singer Sewing Machine or any other black lacquer finished sewing machine for that matter. Congratulations, We can assist you in bringing it back to it's "original condition".
Painting or touch-up is not typically recommended. Sometimes the nicks and scratches tell the story of your sewing machines life. Try to keep it as original as possible.
Cleaning - the main goal is to remove any dirt. Our technicians choose WD-40 as a cleaning agent along with a soft but stiff lint brush. Be sure to clean small spots at a time and do not spray WD-40 directly onto the machine, spray it on a soft cloth and gently wipe any heavily soiled areas. This will clean most of the black areas (be very careful around the gold leafing or other decals). Be sure to try the WD-40 in an inconspicuous place before cleaning the entire machine.
Shining - (after cleaning) to help bring back the shine, use clear Singer sewing machine oil as this oil is highly refined to prevent yellowing and gumming. Apply using a soft clean cloth, rub gently 1st with oil and then with no oil on the cloth to help buff and shine the machine. Be careful not to rub to hard over the decals. |
Do needle sizes confuse you?
Sewing Machine needle numbering system
As the size (thickness) of the needle increases, so does the needles numeric value.
The 2.0 is the distance (in mm) between the two needles, 80 is the needle size (in this example the 80/11 is a lightweight needle). |
