The Oliver Arts & Open Press Is Launched! |
And what is The Oliver Arts & Open Press? It's a new press that's earnest, serious, and deeply committed to the truth--in any and all of its manifestations from the purely literary through the overtly political. Oliver is dedicated to work of only the very highest quality, whatever its genre. And Oliver is equally dedicated to playing a role as a durable, serious, successful alternative to today's greatly compromised mainstream publishing industry.
Most simply, Oliver is reverting to the ideal of publishing the best books for the simple reason that they are the best, the most true, and the most deserving of being widely known. Oliver aims to publish without allowing "the bottom line," or without allowing concern for political factionalism of any kind, overrule editorial judgment, decision-making, and policy.

Oliver's Launch Brings an American Voice That's Understated, Plain, and Powerful--Timothy V. Gatto's From Complicity to Contempt: An American Writer and Veteran Speaks Out Against American Lies |

In this case, the species is the common, unaffected, honest, and zingingly on-the-mark American voice in the tradition of Ring Lardner, Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln, and Will Rogers. Tim Gatto, born in New York City, joined the army as an idealistic young man of 18--and soon saw what was really going on with American policy in Vietnam and elsewhere--until his willing "complicity" gave way to an informed "contempt,"

What's Coming Up? |
Well, the novel TOPIARY is coming up, by the gifted author Adam Engel: a book that tells only the truth, observes everything, is absolutely uncomprising, and is often hilarious. Also coming up is THE CHROMOSOMES OF SUMMER, brilliantly penetrating and moving poetry from Gregory Marszal. Then KIMCHEE DAYS, the most hilarious military novel since Catch 22, from Timothy V. Gatto. And Volume One of Eric Larsen's "Great Books for Regular People" series, HOMER FOR REAL: A READING OF THE ILIAD.
So by all means stay tuned and remain in touch. Also do what this yellow button says and forward our newsletter to a friend or friends who may be interested in The Oliver Arts & Open Press. I hope you will invite them, also, to sign up for our mailing list (see sign-up panel to the left).
Yours with every best wish,
Publisher and President
