Energy News You Can Use
Greetings!

Spring is one of the seasons we use less energy to heat or cool our homes and businesses. But don't forget that this is a GREAT time to prepare for high energy use times. There are more rebates and incentives available than ever before.

Do you have the tools you need to decrease your utility bills? Read on to learn about how to get rebates for energy audits, appliances, insulation and air sealing, renewables, and more!

P.S. Don't forget about federal tax credits to complement your energy improvements.
And the Winner is...

Bicycle Lemonade Donation4CORE teamed up with Bicycle Lemonade to give away a recycled bike to celebrate Earth Day.

We drew the lucky name from our on-line and in person registrations live on KDUR on Friday, April 30th, and the winner is:

Heather Lundquist

Congratulations Heather!

Bicycling saves money in gasoline bills, is a great way to stay healthy, and decreases emissions that would otherwise be created from driving.

Furthermore, a bike from Bicycle Bicycle Lemonade ProjectLemonade uses parts that would otherwise be thrown in landfills, and puts them back to work. These bikes are also more affordable than brand new bikes.

Make every day Earth Day- ride a bike to school or work and start saving!
Recharge CO Rebate Program
'Recharge Colorado' sparks economic boost for retailers, contractors; Colorado consumers reserve more than 25,000 rebates since April 19

Consumers can still reserve rebates at rechargecolorado.com or by calling 1-800-462-0184.

Colorado consumers have responded vigorously to the launch of 'Recharge Colorado,' reserving more than 25,000 rebates through more than 75,000 visits to www.rechargecolorado.com and more than 16,000 calls to the call center since the campaign launch April 19. The enormous interest in rebates for energy efficient appliances, solar power and other energy upgrades has created an economic spark for retailers and contractors providing energy-saving services.

Rebates were scooped up statewide, with great interest along the highly populated Front Range, but with strong response in rural and mountain counties as well, in areas including Routt, La Plata, Montezuma, Chaffee, Montrose, Teller, Yuma and Delta counties.

Though several rebate categories are now on wait-list status, many rebates are still available for items and services that can lead to significant energy savings. Rebates remain for high performance hot water heaters, insulation upgrades, furnaces, boilers, home energy audits, duct sealing, energy monitors, residential and commercial solar electricity, commercial solar thermal as well as residential and commercial small wind systems.

Action Plan Update

4CORE is pleased to be one of the recipients of the Governor's Energy Office (GEO) Community Energy Coordinator (CEC) program grant. The CEC Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) is passing through the Colorado GEO from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

4CORE will convene a five-county advisory board that will provide input and feedback to the Resource & Energy Action Plan of Southwest Colorado and other CEC activities. The first CEC advisory board meeting will take place in a few weeks. Stay tuned for a list of who's who on the Advisory Board.

4CORE kicked-off the five-county CEC program with a free Zero Waste Workshop with Gary Liss, a leading Zero Waste advocate who has helped more communities develop Zero Waste plans than anyone else in the nation. The thirty five workshop participants shared ideas to be used in an action plan.

The general purpose of the CEC grant is to:
  • Build local capacity and position the region for future New Energy Economy activities.
  • Develop the region's three-to-five year strategic sustainability plan and related action plans.
  • Provide for knowledge transfer from GEO staff to the Community Energy Coordinator and the region.
  • Position the region to more readily access GEO programs.
  • Allow Colorado communities to successfully compete for national and international energy economic development and funding opportunities.
