Energy News You Can Use
Greetings!

Here at 4CORE we seem to be in a constant state of evolution.

Resolve to evolve with us this year by going on a "low carbon diet." Read on to join us in this program!
Lose 5,000 lbs in 30 Days!

Low Carbon Diet ClubThe resources we use on a daily basis represent half of America's carbon footprint and our purchases influence the other half. Households represent between 50% and 90% of a community's carbon footprint.

Benefits of a low-carbon diet:
  • Reduce your energy bills and save your $
  • Decrease our dependence on foreign oil
  • Decrease energy use- there will be more for later
  • Cut emissions for:
    • improved air quality
    • slow the effects of climate change (if you believe in stuff like that)
  • Brag to your friends about how much you've lost!
Whether you buy into global warming or you just want to save money, a low carbon diet makes sense (and cents)!

Diet Directions

Step 1: Figure out your current carbon footprint by using the carbon calculator.

Step 2:
Optional but fun: Find a group of friends, family, or co-workers to take the plunge with you- everything is more fun with friends, and a little group competition makes things lively!

You can diet on your own, as a household, form your own club, or find a group to join here.

Step 3: Record your progress on the following spreadsheets:

Step 4:
Upload your group's progress here. See the progress of other groups, and share ideas too.

GEO Rebates Update
Governor's Energy Office
Beginning in the first quarter of 2010, the Governor's Energy Office (GEO) will be offering rebates for Colorado residents and businesses that install energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in their home or building.

Over the coming months, the GEO and 4CORE will release more information about specific requirements and rebate amounts.

The GEO rebates will not be retroactive.
This means that products purchased and measures installed before the GEO launches the program will be ineligible for rebates.

At this time, the GEO anticipates offering rebates for the following energy efficiency measures:
  • Energy audits
  • Insulation and air sealing measures
  • Duct sealing
  • Clothes washers
  • Dish washers
  • Refrigerators
  • Water heaters (gas tankless, gas high performance and gas condensing)
  • Furnaces (gas condensing)
  • Boilers (gas)
  • Energy monitors
  • ENERGY STAR New Homes (for homebuilders)
  • Solar Electric - Photovoltaic (PV)
  • Solar domestic hot water
  • Small wind
The rebates will be offered statewide on a first-come, first-serve basis through 2012 or until funds are exhausted, whichever occurs first.

Please see the rebate page of the GEO website for more information or e-mail GEO with questions.
Souping-up Manna Soup Kitchen
Caulk & Seal Party will reduce utility bills for Manna

Caulk 'n Seal Party Manna Soup Kitchen is getting an energy makeover.

When: Saturday, January 30th, 12:00-3:00 PM

Who: 4CORE, Fort Lewis College Environmental Center (the EC), and Manna Soup Kitchen

Participants can learn about how to make energy efficiency improvements while helping Manna Soup Kitchen lower their utility bills.

Volunteers from Fort Lewis College and the community will seal air leaks with caulk, weather stripping, outlet gaskets and other energy efficient measures. The crew will also replace light bulbs, seal vents, and potentially install more attic insulation. The Manna Soup kitchen will provide lunch for all participants.

To participate in the Caulk and Seal Party, RSVP with the Fort Lewis College Environmental Center at 970-247-7676 after January 11th. For more information, visit the web page or e-mail us.
Insulate CO Rebates Extended

Insulate Colorado Rebates Extended for 2010

4CORE is still administering Insulation Rebates and will continue to do so until the new rebate program comes on line in the first quarter of 2010.

Don't forget that insulating your attic and/or walls and doing air sealing is the first step to lowering your utility bills and keeping WARM this winter.

As always, if you have any feedback or questions about how to become more energy efficient, please contact us.

Happy New Year from your Friends at 4CORE!
