UGHH!  More Snow!
El Dorado Main Street wants to say thank you to the City of El Dorado for doing their best to clean the streets and parking lots downtown.  We also want to thank the downtown businesses who then cleared paths leading to their storefronts.  While we have received more snow this year and seems to have lasted longer than normal; we have realized that it takes all of us to make downtown accessible during these times.

Greetings!

It has been a great couple of weeks in Downtown El Dorado.  New businesses are opening, a couple more are soon to be opening, and some great events have been taking place.  The grand opening for Security 1st Title brought about 150 people to the District 142 building.  The other businesses in the building joined up to support the Security 1st team and attendees by offering food, drinks, prizes, and so much more.  What a great way to welcome a new business into the community!  Rhoda at the Coutts Memorial Museum told me that last month's Brown Bag Luncheon was standing room only.  This monthly program  is such a huge asset to the museum and to the Downtown.  Be sure and try to attend these programs.

8 Wonders of Butler County

Vote NOW!
Amboo The El Dorado Main Street's Artscape Committee is very proud to announce that the many sculptures that were placed throughout downtown have been nominated for the 8 Wonders of Butler County contest.  This sculpture project has taken 10 years to get where it is now and El Dorado Main Street continues to work towards filling the last sculpture base.  In addition to the sculptures, there are several of the downtown businesses who have been nominated as well.  Walter's Flowers, Susie's Chili Parlor, and the Coutts Memorial Museum have also received this honor.  Please support these mentioned and the other El Dorado attractions with a vote on the 360ElDorado.com website.  Voting continues through February 20th.

Act Now to Restore Funding for Historic Preservation Programs

Last week President Obama released his 2011 budget requests.  Included in this, the funding for Save America's Treasures (SAT) and Preserve America (PA) would be eliminated.  These are critical preservation programs and have served as economic development engines and job creators in the communites that they have served.  Save America's Treasures have been responsible for not only the preserving of America's heritage, but also creating 16,000 jobs in just the last ten years.  El Dorado Main Street has been focusing on the importance of our historic buildings and "treasures" that are in our community.  As we enter historic preservation month, please ACT NOW by asking them to restore the funding to these programs.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has created an easy-to-use form to fill out that will be sent to our Senators and Representative.  Click Here to fill this out and be heard!
