Greetings!

Once a month I plan to send out a E-Newsletter highlighting what the committees within El Dorado Main Street is working on.  So many times, I am asked what El Dorado Main Street is doing within the community.  I hope to use this newletter as a tool to educate the community more about our purpose, accomplishments, and current happenings.  Please forward this to whomever you feel would be of interest and encourage them to click the "Join our Mailing List" button.

Big Projects Happening in the Design Committee

At the October Design Committee Meeting, the agenda was full of exciting new possibilities.  First on the agenda was discussing a new computer program called SketchUp.  This program will allow our design committee to take a picture of a building, download it, and make changes to the building such as awnings, paint color, and windows.  This will help the committee communicate possible changes to the building owners by showing them how changes can

Herb's corner

affect the look of the building.  Next on the agenda was discussing a request that came from City Manager, Herb at the last board meeting.  He is requesting that our design committee work on ideas for the lot located at Central and Vine.  This is where the old Smoke Shop was torn down (see picture above).  The City needed this property for the street widening that they are planning, but needed very little of it.  Herb's plan is to make that corner very attractive.  Linda assigned her committee to come back next month with ideas and drawings for that lot.  Herb said that it could include sculptures, landscaping, and even a fountain.  Finally, one of the committee members brought it to everyone's attention that the Sunshine Court (the landscaped alley next to Gizmos) needs some improvement.  That alley was beautified over 10 years ago and needs some maintenance.  There was some discussion as to how to improve the space and where the money for Sunshine Ctimprovement could come from.  The meeting was adjourned with a couple assignments for the committee and lots of great ideas.  If you are interested in joining this group, please call Lindsay at 321-3088.  They meet at 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Thursday every month.  Due to Thanksgiving, November's meeting will be on November 19th at 4:00.

Economic Restructuring making plans for a better downtown

This month the Economic Restructuring Committee made great strides to accomplish some future long-term goals.  This committee is working on the plans for a permanent Farmer's Market to be located in the downtown district.  In the last couple weeks, we received the cost estimate for the possible pavilion structure.  With these estimates, El Dorado Main Street was able to apply for a grant to help pay for the cost of this structure.  There are many ways that the committee hopes to raise money for this project; grants being one of them.

The Economic Restructuring Committee has also been working very closely with some downtown businesses for IWW loans with hopes to be able to loan those dollars in the very near future for the opening and continuation of businesses in the downtown district.
If you are interested in joining this committee, they meet on the 4th Friday of the month at noon at the El Dorado Main Street office.  The November meeting will be December 4th because of Thanksgiving.
