El Dorado Main Street's Facebook Page

While I was in Leavenworth for training, I discussed with other Directors the success that they have had with having a Facebook page.  This year a priority was to inform and educate the importance of our organization.  By joining with the 360ElDorado.com team, we have
made great strides.  As of this last weekend, El Dorado Main Street now has a facebook page as well.  You can become a "fan" of El Dorado Main Street's Facebook page by clicking on the text above.

Frontier Western Celebration Changes 2010 Dates

The Frontier Western Celebration Committee is already working for a great 2010 2010 FWC logofestival.  It was decided at the last meeting that the date of the event be moved to the end of the summer.  The dates for the festival in 2010 are August 20-22nd.  By request from the community, there are many events that are being added to next year's festival.  Look for more communication and oppurtunities to be involved in the coming months.
Greetings!

What a great time we had at the Magic in the Moonlight event at Hudson Gardens!  The weather could not have been any better for this time of year, we had a great turn-out, and the setting was beautiful thanks to Hudson Gardens' great location and support.  the magician, Christopher Starr definitely accomplished our goal of having a different kind of entertainment.  I was even pulled up on stage and cut in half.  I still don't know how that was accomplished.  The feedback that we have received was very positive for our first years' event and we hope to have it again next year.

Last week I attended the Kansas Main Street Symposium along with two other board members. I am please to announce that El Dorado Main Street received three awards.  See the news release below for more information.  Being in Leavenworth for the trainings at the Syposium was great, we learned many tips and strategies to help further make El Dorado Main Street successful.
As we get started into the Christmas Season, there are many volunteer oppurtunities coming up, let me know if you and your family or employees are interested in these great ways to give back to the commuity.

El Dorado Main Street receives three awards at Kansas Main Street Symposium

 Symposium
The Kansas Department of Commerce announced the winners of the Main Street Awards of Excellence at the annual Kansas Downtown Symposium at the RiverfrontCommunity Center in Leavenworth.

The Symposium, which began Wednesday and ends Friday, is sponsored by the Department's Kansas Main Street program and provides community developers and business leaders a chance to network, attend workshops and discuss downtown development in Kansas. The annual event typically draws nearly 200 business and community leaders interested in downtown development, including city and county officials, entrepreneurs and small-business owners, as well as Main Street directors, board members and volunteers.

The Kansas Main Street program helps community volunteers revitalize their city's historic business district. The program tackles the complex issues of revitalization, capitalizing on downtown's history and identifying the resources of the community itself. The Kansas program started in 1985 and provides management training, consultation visits, program evaluation, design assistance, business enhancement strategies, incentive dollars and training for board and committee members and program directors. Kansas Main Street is a self-help program. Staff provides technical assistance, but the responsibility and credit for success rests with the community leaders who offer time, expertise and enthusiasm to revitalizing downtown.

El Dorado Main Street's awards included:

Excellence in Downtown Marketing
El Dorado - Image Campaign

Excellence in Fundraising
El Dorado - Frontier Western Celebration
Community Award
El Dorado - Frontier Refinery

What in the world is GOING ON at District 142!?!

  Dist 142 construction

If you have recently driven down the 100 Block of North Main, you have probably seen much construction going on at the District 142 Building located at 142 N Main.  There are several projects all happening at once in that building.  The front space, where Pink Saloon was located, will soon be Guardian Title Co.  This is a great location for them and will hopefully bring people into the downtown who would not have normally visited.  Behind Scooters, there will soon be a Nu-Way Express.  Tolli and her group have been working very hard to get this going.  Lastly, on the upper floor, will be The Lounge at District 142.  This will be a fantastic place to meet for drinks.  All of these projects are planning on being completed by the end of the year and will help bring more life to downtown El Dorado.  In addition to the new businesses to this building, there are already four other great places to stop and see.  Be sure and check out District 142!
