| Nature's Toothbrush?
Many of us are enjoying this season with visits to the pumpkin patch and the local apple orchards. Have you ever heard an apple referred to as "nature's toothbrush?" Have you ever wondered if its true?
Apples got this reputation because of their mildly acidic nature and the fibrous nature of their flesh. It is postured that the flesh essentially rubs plaque from your teeth.
While we can encourage apples as part of an otherwise healthy and balanced diet, they are no substitute for traditional tooth brushing. The acid and sugar content in apples could actually damage your teeth more than aid in plaque removal. If you can't brush immediately after eating, remember to drink a glass of water to wash away excess acid and sugar until your next brushing and flossing session.
