Meet the Producers: A Community Reception
The Chamber of Commerce has been partnering with the Town of Marion to recruit Life Out Loud Films to film their next project, David Baldacci's Wish You Well, in Smyth County. We have sent recruitment packages, been in contact with the producers, and have worked to get the community excited about this opportunity.
Smyth County is now in the Final Four! The producers from Life Out Loud Films are coming to visit our community and view potential sites for their film. The Chamber of Commerce and Town of Marion are organizing a Community Reception event where members of the community have the opportunity to meet the producers, share their enthusiasm for Smyth County, and help to encourage the film to locate here! We invite any and all community members to attend this special event on Tuesday, March 6 from 7:00-8:00pm at the Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Marion. Bring your friends to give Life Out Loud a warm Smyth County welcome!
For details on this event, please contact the Chamber of Commerce office: 276-783-3161 or info@smythchamber.org.

Director's Corner
New Chamber Website Now LIVE!
The Chamber of Commerce has accomplished one of our long-running goals: publication of a newly updated website! Our new Chamber website went live on Wednesday, February 22 and traffic has already picked up. We were happy to have the opportunity to work with ThoseGeeks, a Chamber member and web services provider, to complete this project. While the website is now live, it will constantly be in the process of updating. We encourage you to visit the site, review the content, and let us know if something's missing. The site is located at the same URL: www.smythchamber.org
Another of our goals in creating this new site is to make the information as up to date and inclusive as possible. We want to extend our outreach into the community and have our website serve as a gateway to information about Smyth County. In order to reach this goal, we need the help of our local businesses, organizations, and government bodies. We invite you to submit your events, information about your business or organization, as well as comments and reviews about our website. We hope to build a comprehensive community calendar, feature community-wide events, and include directories of information and links that are useful to our citizens, businesses, members, and visitors. To submit your events or comment on the new website, email the Chamber office: info@smythchamber.org.

Marion Downtown Offering Small Business Workshop
Entrepreneurship is always a challenge, but especially in tough economic times. Marion Downtown has partnered with the Virginia Main Street Program to bring a leading retail industry consultant to Smyth County's courthouse town to provide ideas, tips, best practices, and encouragement to small business owners. The workshop, "Staying Relevant to a Changed Customer," will be held at the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion from 8-10am on Thursday, April 5th.
Small business owners will learn how to use a Harvard Business School study to see how customers change their buying habits in a deep recession and how they can maximize their opportunity to capture their share, how to "differentiate" and "define" customers, how to use today's cutting edge technology for low-cost and no-cost marketing and advertising through social media, and, as an added bonus, another session, "Business Basics - Retailing 101 and Restaurateuring 101," will be presented in an exciting, vibrant program to kick-start ideas on how to GROW business.
Registration is free for downtown businesses and $10 for other businesses as space permits. Advance registration is required. Call (276) 783-4190 or email kheath@marionva.org with your name, business name, number of attendees, and contact information to reserve your seat.

Just for Men Barber Shop Opens in Grand Style
Do you remember the days when a trip to the barber shop smelled of Old Bay instead of hair spray? When hard wood surrounded giant mirrors and the conversation centered around sports and the news of the day? Marion's newest business offers that, and more!
"Just for Men" Barber Shop, located on the Iron Street Mall in the heart of Marion's historic downtown district, is a step back in time. Owner Greg Armstrong spent months visiting barber shops, looking on line, and building his barber shop to recreate the ones he remembered as a child. Now a Master Barber, Greg and fellow Master Barber Travis Gilley are open for business, straight razor in hand, and ready with a quick joke and "gentlemen's conversation."
"Just for Men" Barber Shop has three stations, backed by stained wood and modern barber tools alongside some of the Master Barber tools from years gone by. The waiting area is lined with comfortable high-backed wooden rocking chairs and a huge flat-screen tv.
Appointments are available, and walk-ins are always welcome. "Just for Men" Barber Shop, 110 South Iron Street, Downtown Marion. Contact: 276-378-0169.

Credit Counseling Workshop Provided Financial Information
One of the main goals of the Chamber of Commerce is to provide support services for our local businesses. We do this through partnerships with organizations such as People, Inc. who provide workshops to help businesses reach their goals and encourage entrepreneurship. On Tuesday, February 21 the Chamber hosted a Credit Counseling Workshop presented by Cindy Green of People, Inc. at the Smyth Career and Technology Center in Seven Mile Ford. This workshop was designed to assist business owners and individual citizens to understand how credit works and ways to keep a good credit score. Workshop segments included topics such as how to read your credit score, warning signs of too much debt, applying for a loan, and tips for using credit cards. For details about upcoming workshops, contact the Chamber office or check out our Facebook Events page.
