On Saturday, February 25, Sara leads a workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. titled "Bread of Heaven & Daily Bread." She will talk about the connections between worship and service. This is an opportunity to look more deeply at the meaning of our work together, and to find ways to taste and see more life. $20.00 workshop fee includes materials and lunch. There is still time to register -- send your check to St. Philip's In The Hills, P.O. Box 65840, Tucson, AZ, 85728-5840, attn: the Rev. Greg Foraker (Memo line: Sara Miles Workshop). Scholarship assistance is available. Child care will be available. For more information, visit the Sara Miles Workshop page on the St. Philip's web site.
On Sunday, February 26, Sara will preach at morning worship services. She will also participate in a community conversation with the Rev. Greg Foraker at 10:15 a.m. in the Murphey Gallery. All are welcome!
Sara Miles is the author of Take This Bread and Jesus Freak, and the founder of the Food Pantry at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Second Music Director Finalist Visits February 19
On Sunday, February 19, Dr. Tamara Still, one of the finalists for our position of Music Director, will be conducting our choirs at the 11:15 a.m. service and at Evensong at 5:30 p.m. She will also be the featured speaker at an Adult Forum at 10:15 a.m. and at 3 p.m. will present a short organ recital in the church. All parishioners are encouraged to attend these events. Dr. Still has been Music Associate at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, OR, since 2005. She also serves on the faculty at Marylhurst University. She holds graduate degrees from the University of Washington and UCLA, as well as a Performance Certificate from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
The search committee has invited stellar musicians with strong but differing qualities in choral direction, pastoral focus, and spirituality. The committee feels that the church should experience these fine musicians and then help decide which is the best match for all of the current and longer-term missions of St Philip's. Therefore, your involvement and your feedback are vital. Comment sheets will be handed out at the Forum and the recital. Feel free to put your comments and impressions in writing to the Search Committee. You are a very important component in the process, so please let your voice be heard. Please send your comments to search.committee@stphilipstucson.org or give your comments to a member of the search committee, whose names will appear on the comment cards.
Help Assemble Migrant Packs
The Border and Immigration Ministry and Outreach Commission have been collecting items for Migrant Survival Packs. These packs will be assembled on February 19, at 11:30 a.m., in the Gallery. Volunteers would be welcomed. It's fast and fun! Items needed for the packs include: Bottled water; small bottles of Gatorade or similar sports drink; small juice containers with straws; small packets of nuts, trail mix, dried fruit; chips, fig bars, cookies, granola, snack bars; cheese or peanut butter crackers; small pop-top lid meat or tuna; protein bars; beef jerky; hard candy or Chiclet-type gum; applesauce or fruit cups and spoons. This effort supports Humanitarian Border Solutions, Naco, AZ, an organization devoted to providing humanitarian aid to migrants along the US/Mexico border.
Friends of Music Concert: Hot, Cool Jazz
On Friday, February 24, at 7 p.m., the swinging Rob Boone Quartet (Rob Boone, trombone and piano, Ed DeLucia, guitar, Jack Wood, bass, Fred Hayes, drums) presents songs from the classic jazz songbook, plus some of Rob's original compositions. Don't miss these outstanding first-call musicians! Admission is by donation ($15 suggested). For more information about Friends of Music, see the Friends of Music page on St. Philip's web site.
Phixers "Phorum": Glues, Adhesives, Tapes ... and Baling Wire
Broken-hearted because you dropped your favorite item? On February 26 at 12:30 p.m. in the East Gallery, Joe Findysz of ACE Hardware 22nd Street will discuss the mind-boggling array of glues and fixatives and give advice on which to choose. There will be a hands-on opportunity to work on that broken item, so dress comfortably. (Joe says he might even be able to give advice about your broken heart!)
Campus Improvements You may notice improvements to the La Paz Room that happened in the past couple of weeks. The room was re-painted through the generous labor of our St. Philip's Phixers. The old, worn carpeting was removed in preparation for installation of a looping system for the hearing impaired. New carpet and padding was installed after completion of the looping system. The funding for this project came from private donations from several parishioners, from the 75th Anniversary Committee and from the Building & Grounds Committee's restricted maintenance fund. No operating budget funds were used for this project. These improvements make the La Paz room a much more pleasant environment for meetings and events. Thank you to all who donated funds and worked on this project.
Labyrinth Paver Sales Continue Members of the labyrinth committee are in the Perry Garden beginning Sundays between 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. taking orders for commemorative engraved bricks to be placed in the St. Philip's 75th Anniversary Labyrinth. We appreciate your support of this significant new endeavor to enhance the Plaza with the labyrinth's spiritual, meditational and aesthetic attributes. Brick order forms are also available for you to download on St. Philip's web site on the "75th Anniversary" page.

Solar Project Update The solar panel project continues on scheduled with installation of the steel beams and support structure in the east parking lot and running of new irrigation lines to the curbed median areas and planting beds. The next phase of the project will begin in early March with installation of the actual solar panels atop the steel structure and the power generating equipment behind the new stucco wall to the south of the Children's center and Pottery Studio. After installation and testing of the equipment, the landscapers will complete planting of vegetation in the curbed areas and the parking lot will be re-sealed and striped for use. Anticipated completion is around the first week in April. We are planning a formal dedication/blessing of the solar installation on Sunday, April 22.
