| Greetings! |
For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, whether they're a parishioner or someone interested in St. Philip's, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

What's Going On
|
WELCOME SUNDAY Welcome Sunday, on September 11, features the beginning of a new program year, special liturgies, and a ministry fair all morning. In addition to welcoming each other, this is our opportunity to reach out beyond St. Philip's walls.
Our parish emphasis this fall is "Faith in Challenging Times: Embracing Our Spiritual Center to Help Us Serve the World's Needs." This year we have all witnessed financial uncertainty, job loss and transitions, natural disasters, political upheaval, our own Tucson tragedy, and the upcoming tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001. As Christians, seeking our spiritual center can ground, nurture, and empower us during challenging times, equipping us to continue to do God's work in the world.
Think about telling a friend how St. Philip's has made a difference in your life, and invite them to join us on September 11! ALSO ON SEPTEMBER 11 "Comfy Space" Service
Our Comfy Space services, aimed at families and friends of God who are prone to "wiggle" a bit in church, take place the second Sunday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Music Center. On Sunday, September 11, we will talk about Joseph forgiving his brothers and about Jesus' answer/challenge to the disciples' question: how many times must we forgive? Is 7 enough? Where do we struggle to forgive and how does God help us with that? Young at heart of all ages are invited to share in the interactive reflection time, enjoy fellowship and Holy Communion, and serve God as a community in Christ. It's a relaxed, playful atmosphere, safe and inspiring. So, bring a friend and get comfy. For information or to join the "Comfy Team" contact the Rev. Allen Breckenridge at ComfySpace@stphilipstucson.org. All-Youth Event
The next Second Sunday All-Youth Event will be on Sunday, September 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening will begin with a blessing, followed by communal group activites and snacks, youth group time, and then a compline service in the Teen Center. The compline service will address the youths' thoughts and feelings about 9//11, and how people were impacted by it, how they as young people feel about it, and what their hopes are for the future, to create a better world. All Rite 13, J2A, and SPY youth are invited - and don't forget to invite your friends! Check out our Facebook page!

Casa Maria Needs You
Outreach is looking for a couple or a pair of friends who would be willing to take over leadership of our Casa Maria Ministry. Every fourth Saturday, the Casa Maria volunteers prepare roughly 850 sandwich lunches for distribution to our brothers and sisters at Casa Maria. The responsibilities of the leaders includes ordering the food, receiving the food delivery on the Thursday before and supervising the (many) volunteers on Casa Maria Saturdays. Most Saturdays, other volunteers take care of transporting the lunches down to Casa Maria. Training and support would be available. If you are interested in taking on this very important ministry, please contact Nancy Atherton at 269-0699 or outreach@stphilipstucson.org.
