Ministry E-Letters

Greetings!

Believe it or not, we are midway through Lent. During this season of prayer and reflection, we invite you to explore the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities and follow where God is next calling you, as we "cross over" from hearing to doing God's work.

If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, whether they're a parishioner or someone interested in St. Philip's, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.

We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes Is Online!

The March issue of Loaves & Fishes mails today, but it is already posted on St. Philip's web site. Loaves on the Web is always worth a look because it is in color and features a more extensive spread of photographs than is possible in a print version. This March issue allows you to relive the excitement and inspiration of the Presiding Bishop's visit in February, as well as lots of other events occurring during December to March.

March 31 Concert Poster Thursday: Special Multimedia Gala Concert

On Thursday, March 31, a gala multimedia concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Church at St. Philip's is part of the ongoing celebration of St. Philip's 75th Anniversary in 2011. Subtitled "In Prosperity, Generosity, and Vision; In Adversity, Hope, and Determination," the concert celebrates the optimism and strength of those who founded St. Philip's in the midst of the Great Depression by featuring American music composed during the time of St. Philip's founding and the first 25 years of its expansion and growth. The program includes music by Charles Ives, Samuel Barber, Virgil Thomson, and Aaron Copland. Garmon Ashby will conduct St. Philip's Canterbury Choir in the choral selections. The 75th Anniversary Orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Thomas Cockrell. Narration and visuals of St. Philip's 75-year history will enhance the music. Admission to the concert is by donation (suggested donation $20). Read more.

Preceding the concert at 6:30 p.m. in the Murphey Gallery at St. Philip's will be a festive catered reception. Admission to the reception is $40 and includes preferred seating for the concert. To make reservations, contact Claude Deniz at 299-3481.

On Saturday, April 2, there will be a special Lenten retreat morning of reflection and healing entitled "Healing Hearts." Tucson's January shootings, recent global events, rampant unemployment and other personal losses leave us shaken and grieving. This morning retreat offers a communal journey toward peace, harmony and healed hearts.  Faclitated by the Rev. Cliff Blinman and the Mourners' Path Team.  Please contact Brigid Waszczak at brigie@hotmail.com or call 577-7792 to register.

Three special Sunday morning Lenten series are offered at 10:15 a.m. The Young Couples and Young Professionals Group of St. Philip's invite other Young Episcopalians (in their 20s, 30s, and 40s) to join in an ongoing discussion series through April 17. Entitled "Those Episkopals," the series explores our beliefs, customs, and rituals as Episcopalians. Please contact Tamzin Sugiyama at 529-7219 or youngcouples@stphilipstucson.org for more details. In Room 9.

"Mystics of the World, Unite!"  is a walk through six religious traditions in search of order, to find mostly chaos. Through listening to the voices of mystics in translation almost as if they were present and reflecting on what they were saying, participants will try to make a kind of sense of these remarkable visionaries. Facilitated by Brad Stroup. Through May 1.

Beginning on April 10, Dr. Kevin Justus will lead a series seeking to investigate how artists in the past dealt with depicting the mysteries of the Faith. Entitled "The Agony of Lent and Ecstasy of Easter: Lenten Mysteries and Easter Revelations," the series will show how remarkably different artists made visible the invisible.
