June 13-17
Vacation Bible School at St. Martin's:
It's the Family Vacation o
hipposf a Lifetime!
Bring your entire family to ancient Egypt for St. Martin's Vacation Bible School each evening from Sunday, June 13, to Thursday, June 17. You'll travel back into Bible times -- without setting foot outside of Austin. Join us for these activities:
  • 5 to 5:45 pm: MEALS! Sunday is potluck, Monday through Thursday meals are $3 per person or $10 for a four-night pass.
  • 5:45 to 8:30 pm: ACTIVITIES! We have lots of activities for preschoolers and Kindergartners through Fifth Graders. St. Martin's Youth are our helpers. Remember that VBS at St. Martin's is for adults, too. Join us for "Discovering Your Spiritual Journey" with long-time Spiritual Director Barbara Schutz. She will guide participants through recognizing milestones throughout their lives and rejoicing in God's presence throughout their journey.
Each evening, your family can become part of history as they see, hear, touch, and even taste what it was like to live in Pharaoh's empire. You'll explore authentic Marketplace shops, visit Joseph (who's in Pharaoh's Palace!), take part in games, dance to lively Bible songs, and sample tasty tidbits. These experiences help make God's Word come alive with new meaning for all who participate.

Volunteers and supplies are still needed. We especially need members to donate fleece and loan these items for VBS week: Mexican blankets, large pots and palm plants. Please contact Sharolyn Browning, Child & Family Minister, if you can help.

Click here to register as a participant, volunteer, buy meal tickets and see the supply list at St. Martin's very own VBS website!

Remember to save these dates for Volunteer Trainings and Set-Building Days:
  • Volunteer Training Options (Attend One): June 3 (7 to 8 pm) or June 12 (9 to 10 am)
  • Set-Building Days: June 5 and June 12 from 9 am to 4 pm. Come one and come all!
It will take a village to make VBS happen -- so if you would like to help, please remember to contact Sharolyn Browning today!

A Note from Pastor June Wilkins
Gather us in for summer w
sharing the peaceorship

Starting this month and going through the summer, we're going to one worship service on Sunday at St. Martin's. It should be exciting: the worship service will be blended with contemporary and traditional elements, we will have many special musical guests and there will be events on the Mall after worship. Our worship will be at 10 am, so you will be able to come to worship and still take advantage of most of the day on Sunday. Those are all great things about having one worship service during the summer -- but the best thing about it is that you will get to worship with all of those people who you don't always see.

As pastor here, I meet most people at St. Martin's and I don't always remember who goes to which worship service. Often I will mention one active, participating member to another active, participating member,  and I am surprised to find that they don't know each other. This is a reality of our world today. There are people in our midst all the time that we never get to know.Well, one summer worship will help people at St. Martin's work against that cultural norm.

Please take full advantage of being in worship with everyone this summer. Introduce yourself to people you know you don't know. And how about this? Change the seat you usually worship in. I know, it's a shocking idea -- but there will probably be someone else from the other worship who is used to sitting there!

Summer is short and it will go by quickly. Don't let this opportunity slide by without getting the most out of it. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone worshiping together this Sunday, June 6, at 10 am!

Notes From The Congregation

Special Thanks!!!

We had another kind of hero on Memorial Day Weekend. On Friday, May 28, the water main line furnishing St. Martin's sprung a leak, cutting off all water to the building and forcing the AC system to shut down. By 5 pm, calls to the Dads and Young Men of St. Martin's Group went out to help dig out a portion of the Parlor patio area to find the broken pipe. Answering the call for help included Ryan Loyd, Derak Kilgo, Jeff Wallingford, Todd Waldron, Dennis Cordes, Rick & Brian Baker, Len Boatman, Sam Sullivan, Charles Oertli and of course, Benjamin Sullivan, our faithful Facilities Superintendant who led the entire effort. Digging continued well into the night. On Saturday, various volunteers came back to resume the process. Our plumber, Bonnet Plumbing, had to drive to San Antonio to pick up parts. By Saturday night, just before midnight, the hole was fixed and the water and A/C to the building was back on. The efforts to get the facilities in operating order for Sunday services was no small feat.  We still have work and decisions to make regarding the pipe, but because of the Herculean efforts by volunteers and staff, the basic functions of the building are operating. Thanks goes out to all involved with the repair process!

And more thanks!
A big "thank you" to Gus Grosskopf for using his incredible woodworking skills to build three new coffee carts for the building.  We now have very functional carts with storage to help with coffee service throughout the week and weekends.  Thanks, Gus, for your hard work!

Take a picture with you and Flat Martin and bring it back for our bulletin board. Contact Sharolyn Browning, Child & Family Minister, for more information.

Thanks for your support of the gym lights
The lights in the gym, which are 50 years old, will be replaced thanks to the congregation's generous support of this project. Mop & Hammer will be installing 12 new lights in the upcoming weeks.

Donate Items For Our Sack Lunch Ministry
Did you know that 40 to 50 people each week come to the church office for one of our pre-made sack lunches? This ministry to the hungry depends on your donations. We are always in need of: individual juice cans (not boxes), individual Vienna sausage cans, individual pop-top fruit cups, peanut butter sandwich cracker packs, disposable spoons, individual bite-sized Snickers candies, and brown lunch bags. You may bring these donations to the church office on Sunday mornings or during business hours Monday through Thursday.

Do You Like Food -- AND Parties?!?
We are looking for volunteers who have a knack for coordinating fellowship events. If you like to organize parties and coordinate food for events, we'd love to have your help. Contact Pastor June Wilkins for more information.

Join Our New "St. Francis Guild"
We're on the look-out for members to help us plan and organize our upcoming "Blessing of the Animals" event in October. If you have a love of animals and want to be a part of our effort to reach out to the Austin community, please let us know. Contact Chris Baker for more information.
