You're gonna love this!
So I had just gotten home from a busy day and had changed from my dress clothes to my comfortable shorts and t-shirt. It was a beautiful August afternoon here in Colorado - blue skies, a few clouds, and a slight breeze was ruffling the leaves on the trees.
I had just run down to the kitchen and was rummaging around to see what we would be eating for dinner when the door bell rang. One look at the door had me inwardly groaning. Someone was on my front porch, obviously selling something.
I went to the door, fully prepared to decline and go on with my evening. I opened the door to a very personable young man. He asked a bunch of questions, kept me engaged, shared his personal goal once he sold enough magazines...
and I was intrigued by his hugely positive attitude.
That's what really hooked me.
His attitude.
We started to talk, and we ended up talking for over an hour and a half on my front porch. He told me how he's thankful each morning for another day alive. He told me a little about his dream of writing a book or becoming a motivational speaker. He is nineteen years old and has already been to sixteen states (those are just the ones that I counted as he rattled them off) with this company that sells magazines face-to-face. Each sales agent has a financial goal and this company helps them to reach it. He liked his job, his opportunities, and we talked about his future plans.
He wants to make a difference.
He wants to inspire people.
We talked about his LEGACY.
I mean, really, if you don't have that vision of how you want your life to end up, how in the world are you ever going to get there?
In the end, we completed our transaction. I watched him as he neatly wrote me a receipt, we finished up a wonderful, inspiring conversation, and he moved on.
Oh.
What you don't know is that
HE inspired ME
*********
Gabriel Forbus, from Atlanta, Georgia, is 19, has traveled to at LEAST 16 states, and has walked door-to-door to do his job for the last 18 months.
And do you know what his goal is?
To earn enough money to buy 2 prosthetic arms that will complement his prosthetic leg.
(Yeah, I know, read that again.)
We don't need the details of his circumstances.
What we do know is that he hasn't let them stop him.
He hasn't let his limitations kill his dreams.
He is taking steps, literally and figuratively, to move forward with a bright attitude.
As long as you're still breathing...
You have the chance.
To do the same thing.
You have choices.
So do it up.
Let your differences DRIVE you rather than hold you back.
Live your dreams.
Gabriel - you touched me that day. Keep on making a difference as you cross the U.S. Way to go.
