Dear  ,

At this year's Annual Conference in San Francisco, WTS International and the US Department of Transportation kicked off a national initiative for girls and young women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

This initiative, called Transportation YOU, will introduce younger girls ages 13-18 to the broad array of transportation careers through hands-on interactive activities, mentoring programs, field experiences and a national "virtual" community. Each WTS chapter will develop Transportation YOU activities that best fit the interests and resources of the chapter.

To get things rolling in 2011, WTS Minnesota will partner with the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies and Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute to participate in the U of M's Exploring Careers in Engineering & Physical Science workshops for 11th and 12th graders. The following volunteer opportunities are available on July 18th

Participate in a lunchtime career panel.Spend your lunch hour (12-1 PM) connecting with high school-aged girls and boys about your profession. A moderator will help to keep the discussion lively. We are looking for 4 volunteers from diverse fields.

Assist with morning activities. CTS staff will be leading the workshop participants through several activities, including the Gridlock Buster traffic control game. One WTS member is needed to assist from 9:15 AM to 12 PM.

All events will take place on the U of M East Bank campus, Keller Hall 3170. Interested in volunteering? Email Christina Miller
