Public Library Stressed about studying for finals? Let the Newburyport Public
Library help! We invite teens in grades 9 through 12 to join us after hours on
Friday, June 11, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for Finals Frenzy! Break open your
books, consult online content, and share mnemonic devices in our study-inducing
space! Snacks will be provided. Teens must pre-register and obtain an admission
ticket at the Information Desk, as the event is limited to 25 studious teens.

The Not-so-Old Man and the Sea
Anyone who has ever viewed the undersea world of the Caribbean Sea
through a snorkel or dive mask will know that John Soward has captured
all the amazing colors of saltwater life in his work to share with the
landlubbers among us. Now you can get your feet wet in the
island-inspired art here at the Firehouse on Market Square,
Newburyport, June 9 - August 1 when the watercolors of John Soward will
be on display in the Gallery.
This event is free and open to the
public during regular Box Office hours (Wed - Sun, 12N-5P) or until
curtain.
A reception will be held Saturday, June 12 in the Firehouse
Gallery (upstairs) from 4-7pm.

Plum
Island offers some of the best surf fishing around, so celebrate National
Fishing and Boating Week with your children by coming to our Kids Fishing Day!
Kids will learn how to cast a line, how to identify local fish, try their hand
at fishing along the beach, and explore the Ocean World touch tank that will be
on display for part of the day. Poles and bait will be provided in limited
quantities. Fun for the whole family! Meet at refuge parking Lot #1. NO
REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Registration All programs are FREE but space is LIMITED and
advanced registration is required for all programs, unless otherwise indicated.
Please call 978-465-5753 to register. Registration is not complete until you
receive confirmation from a staff member. Please note that outdoor programs may

Newburyport Garden Tour June 12-13, 2010 10am - 4pm 31th Annual Garden Tour presented by
the Historical Society of Old Newbury
Eleven
gardens will be showcased on this year's tour to benefit the Cushing House
Museum and Garden, a National Historical Landmark in the seacoast town of
Newburyport, Massachusetts.
The Tour features
gardens in Newburyport and Byfield (Newbury) that are sure to dazzle you. Small
and large, urban and rural, formal and informal - there is something to appeal
to every garden enthusiast! Each will inspire you to create your own special
garden.

Firehouse Center for the Arts Kristen Miller Sat, June 12, 8pm
Kristen
Miller is a one-woman cello army. She plugs her antique cello into a live
digital recorder to stack layers of earthy cello, spoken word and singing. The
result is a rich tapestry of rhythm, harmony, and deep melodic contour that
Billboard writer Bobby Borg calls "hauntingly, charmingly, brilliant."

Cinderella: A Pretty Princess Panto! Written and Directed by Damon Jespersen
Saturdays and Sundays June 5-27 at 2 PM
Join Theater in the Open as we add another theatrical form to our repertoire
with the panto-- storytelling, derived from ancient Italian improvisational
shows and refined in 19th century Britain, which features song, dance,
buffoonery, slap-stick, audience participation and promises a rollicking good
time to young and old alike. How will our favorite heroine Cinderella fare in
this zany upside down world? Theater in the Open promises a "happily ever
after" to one and all.
Admission: $8 for adults, $5 for
seniors/students, free for children age 3 and under. The June 5th show is free
to all
Place: Maudslay State Park. Follow the
Theater in the Open Flags from the Park parking lot. Allow ten minutes to
stroll to the site.
