Transitional Living Programs for
Men and Women in Western North Carolina

NSR Shells on Beach

Dear Friends and Family,

So often I am reminded that people, friends, and family are in our lives for a reason and for a short period of time. Just when I think life is perfect, something comes along to remind me that nothing is for certain; that all of it can change in an instant.

Having been through this experience of loss so many times over the past year has also brought me closer to remembering that letting go also means getting back. Isn't that the law of the universe?

Still, letting go is not easy. We work closely with each of our residents, and they truly become part of our family. When they get ready to graduate, we feel the tug and we hope for the best.

We are excited to now offer an extended care program that make it easier for individuals and families to feel more confident when letting go of transitional living and moving to fully independent living. Our extended care program is managed by Recovery Placement Services and provides exceptional guidance and support for the first 6 months (or more) after graduation from our program.

I invite you to learn more about our new continuing care program in our article below.

Supporting the Transition to Independent Living
New Extended Care Program Supports Long-Term Recovery Success

Next Step Recovery is now offering a 6-month extended recovery program for residents who are preparing to graduate from our transitional living houses. These services, provided in partnership with Recovery Placement Services (RPS), provide exceptional recovery support, guidance and accountability.

We asked RPS director and lead clinician, Patricia Adlerman, LCSW, to answer a few questions about our new continuing care program.

How do RPS advocacy services support Next Step Recovery residents?

Our Recovery Placement Advocacy program provides 6 months

of intensive case management to assist clients in following their continuing care plan after graduation from Next Step Recovery. Our program provides an extra layer of accountability that reduces the risk of relapse.

What extended recovery services do you offer?

Our services include recovery and dual diagnosis monitoring, educational counseling, detailed clinical assessments, care coordination, monthly progress reports, alcohol and drug testing, and placement guidance in the event of relapse.

How does your program support families?

Our program removes families from the policing role so they can focus on healing, rebuilding relationships, and strengthening the family system as a whole.

What clients could benefit most from this type of program?

Everyone can benefit from extra recovery support. Over the past two decades,

I have seen that our services are especially helpful for those with a history of relapse and for those with medical or psychiatric diagnoses or legal issues.

serenityGiving the Gift of Recovery

One of the many life skills we teach our residents is how to set meaningful goals and work toward them. As an organization, we work on these very same skills: setting annual goals for our program's growth and continually striving to improve our recovery support services.

As a nonprofit, we can't achieve our goals without community support.

We are excited to share that we are now within $2,500 of our fundraising goal!

We would like to gratefully acknowledge those who have given generously to our annual campaign including the Asheville Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, the Mary Alice Ingram Busch Charitable Trust, and David Aughinbaugh.

Please consider giving the gift of recovery by supporting our campaign.

Learning to Set Goals

Setting personal goals is one of the many life skills we work on at Next Step Recovery.

This month, we were grateful to have

Robert Beall of Beall Consulting share his expertise as he led our male residents in some practical goal-setting exercises.

Parent Testimonial

I was referred to Patricia Adlerman and Recovery Placement Services after our son had started the process of addiction treatment.

We worked with Patricia and her team to help our son maintain sobriety and manage a long-term path to sober living. With Recovery Placement Services, we truly had a team dedicated to a common goal.

They helped with monitoring, coaching, tracking and managing our son's first year of sobriety. This 3rd party advocacy gave our son the help he needed to take charge of his own recovery while keeping the family involved and informed.

Patricia's involvement has been incredible, and it has enabled our family to move from "policing" to supporting. This has enabled a more open relationship with our son and an enormous relief of stress for our family.
