NSR 5th Anniversary

Next Step Recovery, Inc.

April 2011

Dear Friends and Families,

This May marks Next Step Recovery's fifth anniversary. Over the past five years, we have grown from one men's house to three, we've opened a woman's program, we've added numerous program enhancements, and we've started a counseling center that provides intensive recovery support for men and women, adolescents and their families.

We are grateful for all of our friends, families, alumni and philanthropic organizations that have made this growth possible so we can respond to the ever-growing need for our recovery support services.

Please join us on May 1 at our Montford property from 2 to 6 pm to celebrate five years of powerful next steps.

Warmly,

Susan Stader

How Do You Measure Success?
climbing higher

Here at Next Step Recovery, we ask ourselves and our residents to do that every day. It's a pretty powerful question.

For us, success isn't about wealth, a prestigious position or any other superficial measure.

Success is all about having the courage to take the next step to make your life better.

It's about committing to a 12-step path and living it one day at a time; healing relationships with family members; learning to seek out and maintain supportive friendships;  taking personal responsibility for one's finances, sometimes for the very first time; and remembering dreams and pursuing them through education or on-the-job training.

Success is also about giving back-remaining active in the recovery community and helping others find the courage to take their next steps.

Skills for Life

At Next Step Recovery, our life-skills classes are an important component of our men's and women's recovery programs.

Many of our residents come to us without well-developed life skills. These skills are critical for success in long-term recovery.

Personal responsibilities and life's challenges can easily trigger relapse for those who do not develop strong coping skills.

Our program helps residents develop and strengthen important life skills including

·  Living the 12 steps

·  Goal setting

·  Job & computer skills

·  Money management

·  Relationship skills

·  Communication skills

·  Problem solving

·  Conflict resolution

·  Time management

·  Nutrition

·  Meal planning

·  Cooking

· Cleaning & hygiene

·  Exploring spirituality

·  Sober recreation
