Women's  Testimonial

As I embark on the next chapter of my journey in recovery, I find myself excited and well- prepared.

I remember being afraid and nervous the day I checked in. The women on staff were so eager and willing to help in any way they could.

Men's Testimonial

Today I am 114 days clean and sober. I have struggled for years with my addiction and disease, entering 4 different treatment centers over the years.

Even before entering treatment, I knew that if I wanted to remain sober, I would need long-term care and a structured environment while I focused on my recovery.

I decided on Next Step Recovery for long term care, and I cannot express my appreciation and gratitude for Next Step enough.

I have been a resident of Next Step for over two months now, and I can honestly say without question, it has saved my life.  It has, and continues to give me the confidence and the strength to face each day clean and sober.

Now for the first time during my early recovery, thanks to the support of the Next Step team, I feel like I have a fighting chance for a healthy and successful future.

Next Step has proven to be my own private ark, my home, and my family.

Men's Program Resident

Dear Friends and Family,

One of my favorite quotes is from A Course in Miracles.

"Teach only Love, for that is what you are."

Here at Next Step Recovery, we are blessed with miracles on a daily basis: the miracles of friendship, personal growth, and each precious day of recovery, free from addiction.

Love is at the heart of everything we do. Love for our brothers and sisters in recovery, love for our families, and love for what we do -- helping men, women and their families heal from the trauma of addiction and discover their inner strength, dignity and potential.

Wishing each of you a month full of love and miracles,

Susan Stader

Women's Program Supports Transition  from Treatment
Women's House

During the first 30 days, new residents are immersed in the 12-step recovery process and education on the disease of addiction. This intensive recovery period supports residents as they transition from in-patient treatment programs to our recovery community.

The first month gives residents the extra structure and care they need to transition successfully to more independent sober living. Residents attend daily 12-step meetings, house meetings, relapse-prevention and life-skills classes, and group meditation and yoga.

Our residents find this highly structured time is also invaluable for creating strong, supportive relationships with other women in our program.
A Lifetime of Adventure Starts Here

Our Sunday Adventures program is designed to help residents learn how to have fun, socialize and challenge themselves without drugs or alcohol.

Here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the great outdoors provides unlimited opportunities for adventure. We are looking forward to  canoeing, rafting, hiking, mountain biking and camping together in the Spring and summer months.

These weekly adventures are great reminders that recovery is also about recovering and discovering joy in our lives.

The last four months have been a lot of hard work - emotionally and mentally. The transition from primary treatment to a halfway house was challenging in many ways and, although it was easy for me to get frustrated, I am certain that I would not still be sober today without the support I received from everyone at Next Step.

I appreciate how readily available staff were to me and how easy they made it for me to communicate with them. I found the structure and guidance I needed during this time in my life, and I am grateful for all of you. You will always hold a very special place in my heart.

I love you all dearly,

- Women's Program Alumni, 221 days sober :)
