Issue: 8October 2010
Dear Families and Friends,

Those of us who work on recovery know that the path of sobriety is made up of individual steps taken day by day. Many of these steps are small but important. Occasionally, our steps look more like leaps and bounds.

This month, Next Step Recovery, Inc. is taking one of those leaps when our Open Door Recovery Center opens its doors in downtown Asheville.

Our new recovery center will provide individual addictions therapy as well as a 12-week recovery program that combines relapse prevention education with recovery strategies and group processing.

In the coming months, our recovery center will also offer programs that support family members and women's addiction issues such as eating disorders.

I encourage you to read the article below for more information about our new center and our 12-week relapse prevention program beginning later this month!

Warmly,

Susan Stader
Executive Director
NEW CENTER OFFERS ENHANCED RECOVERY SUPPORT
Open Door logo concept Center Offers Individual and Group Recovery Support

This month, Next Step Recovery opens the doors of its new recovery center designed to bridge the gap between intensive outpatient recovery programs and living a fully integrated, independent and substance-free life.

The Open Door Recovery Center will offer individual addictions therapy as well as a 12-week relapse prevention program that combines education about the disease of addiction with 12-step and recovery strategies and group processing led by  our own Kathy Ronemus, who is a licensed professional counselor and addictions specialist.

Kathy also leads our relapse prevention group at Next Step Recovery for Women in Weaverville and formerly managed the intensive outpatient program at Pavillon.

Our first relapse-prevention program session will be held on October 18th at the Recovery Center located in Suite 114 of the Executive Park building on the corner of Charlotte and College Street in downtown Asheville. This group will be an open group with people joining the 12-week relapse prevention program at any given time in the cycle.

In the coming months, Open Door Recovery Center will offer additional recovery programs to support families and women's issues including eating disorders.

Evening Program Begins on Oct. 18

Open Door Recovery Center's first 12-week relapse-prevention program will begin October 18 with an open registration so that men and women can join at any point in the program's cycle.

Our relapse-prevention program will be led by Next Step Recovery's Kathy Ronemus, who is a licensed professional counselor and addictions specialist.

Program sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Open Door Recovery Center located in the Executive Park building, Suite 114, on the corner of Charlotte and College Streets in downtown Asheville.

The two-hour classes will include education about the disease of addiction and the process of recovery. The second hour of each class will be devoted to group processing and integrating and applying recovery tools in everyday life.

In between sessions, program participants will work with the Johnson Institute's Commitment to Sobriety: A Relapse Prevention Guide for Adults in Recovery.

After completing the program, participants will have a better understanding of the neurobiology of addiction, stages of recovery, how to avoid relapse triggers, healthy coping and communication strategies, and how to heal emotional trauma to support a vibrant, substance-free life.

Participants will also develop an individual relapse-prevention plan during the course of this program.

The cost for this program is $200 per week with a 12-week commitment.
