NSR Annual Campaign
Our Next Step Annual Campaign

Next Step Recovery is a young organization with a remarkable story.Just four years ago, many people told our Founder and Director, Susan Stader, that getting a transitional living facility started in Asheville would be impossible. After all, two facilities had just closed down. But through will and skill, and because its services are so needed, Next Step Recovery was not only born but has survived its infancy and is growing like a teenager.

Next Step Recovery now serves women as well as men. It has a proven track record, a waiting list, and a growing reputation for excellence. As a Board, we would accept nothing less.We know how vitally important this work is.

Next Step Recovery does not receive any financial support from the government. The entry fees and rent from our residents, most of very modest means, provide the bulk of our operating funds. We now need to supplement these funds and the small grants we have received with contributions from you, our community.

So we are taking Our Next Step.

This is the name for our new annual campaign to provide the tradition of giving needed to maintain our quality care, improve our facilities, and to make the Next Step Recovery program sustainable long term. The needs are many: funding treatment for those who can't afford the entry fee, retaining high quality staff with salaries that are at an appropriate level, providing a van for our new women's facility, building a mortgage fund so we can invest in the buildings that house our programs, and more.

We invite you to take Our Next Step with us by making a contribution to Next Step Recovery's annual campaign. You can learn more by clicking on the graphic above. You can make your contribution by contacting Susan Stader at 828-350-9960 or by email at susan@nextsteprecovery.com.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Next Step Recovery for Women in Weaverville welcomed us with open arms to their beautiful facility in the mountains of North Carolina. The Director, Mark Vander Galien, gave my daughter and I a tremendous amount of his time and thoughtful attention to ensure that he fully understood my daughter's needs, so he could provide the best treatment possible for her.

The "culture" that he has created at Next Step Recovery for Women has resulted in a caring staff, a community of women who care and look out for one another, and a place where the women feel cared for and nurtured by the staff. It is a safe haven for them to come home to after venturing out into the world with their newfound sobriety.

Mark has been consistently available to me as well-for education, reassurance and coaching-and he is always honest and forthcoming about the reality of what is going on. Nothing goes undiscussed, and there are no secrets or concerns stuffed under the rug.

Mark encourages the women to use their real life experiences to learn and grow from, and he and his staff are doing their best to prepare them for living in the stressful real world while remaining clean and sober.

Asheville has a growing sober community and there are plenty of young people who are walking the path of sobriety. My daughter made immediate friends in the local AA and NA meetings and, even without a car, was able to obtain transportation to and from those meetings.

I would highly recommend Next Step Recovery for Women to anyone who is looking for a safe place for their daughter to "land" after treatment or for women who could use the extra support of living in a loving, supportive community of women.
