TOMORROW'S CURES DELIVER JOBS TODAYI want to welcome Gallus BioPharmaceuticals and founder Mark Bamforth to St. Louis County! The triumph of new jobs is always exciting. Each new announcement is an economic bolster and strong sign we are headed in the right direction. Gallus BioPharmaceuticals stepped forward to purchase the former Johnson & Johnson Centocor Biologics facility in Berkeley with plans to expand both its campus and workforce. In addition to retaining Centocor’s 160 employees, the biologics manufacturer plans to increase its employment by 160 jobs—that’s 100 percent job growth! Plus, these well paying jobs are the high-tech jobs of the future.
Gallus' local growth is certainly exciting! Equally so is the increasing activity developing in St. Louis County. I look forward to making more of these announcements in the coming months! Charlie A. Dooley

The economic development agencies of St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis have invited three expert panelists from Nashville, Oklahoma City and Kansas City to share what has and has not worked in their cities. Together, we’ll examine the best practices of regional economic development and begin laying the groundwork for continued and expanded collaboration.

A thriving town square filled with shops, cafes and places for residents to gather and socialize – this is the new vision for the Jamestown Mall area.
After nearly two years of planning, studying and public commentary, St. Louis County has released the Jamestown Mall Area Plan. The plan centers on one main idea – transforming the single-use, large footprint mall into a mixed-use village center that easily can adapt to economic conditions.
"We want to give North County a place that residents can be proud of again," said St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley. "The beauty of this plan is that it capitalizes on the virtues of North County and is flexible to meet the community’s needs."
Possibilities for Jamestown include a redesigned village with affordable senior housing, community centers and small businesses, combined with natural elements such as parks and walking trails.
The next step is for St. Louis County Council to adopt the plan. Then, project managers will begin reaching out to the five property owners who control the various parcels.

Just over a month ago, a destructive EF4 tornado ripped through St. Louis County, seriously damaging over 2,700 buildings. Both homes and businesses lied in the destructive path of winds in the upwards of 200 mph.
St. Louis County was included in President Barak Obama’s federal major disaster declaration for the State of Missouri, making a number of federal assistances available to businesses, homeowners and renters.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been authorized to provide disaster grants to those affected by the storms, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) has been authorized to provide low-cost disaster loans to businesses.
The deadline for SBA physical damage applications is July 8, 2011, and the deadline for SBA economic injury loan applications is February 9, 2012. These deadlines are not flexible.
