This summer, St. Louis Enterprise Centers hosted high school and college students enrolled in various entrepreneurship programs. In July, over 20 area high schoolers participating in the St. Louis University/Allsup Summer Entrepreneurship Academy visited the Midtown Enterprise Center. In August, for the second consecutive year, Japanese exchange students from Rikkyo University visited the centers as part of a business planning and entrepreneurship program through the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Both groups of students spoke with small business owners and heard from Enterprise Centers Vice President Dennis Breite.

Why We're Here: BuildingWorksWhywerehere

Ann Schwetye,
 owner, BuildingWorks
Building Works
The reasons for joining a small business incubator are as unique as the entrepreneurs themsleves:

While running their architectural firm, Ann Schwetye and her husband were struck with an idea for a new business. "My husband and I often would have the contractor or owner call us and ask questions," says Schwetye. "We would then have to go into the archives to find the answers."

From there, BuildingWorks, Inc.was born. The company takes the mountains of paperwork and CDs that the owner of a building receives at the end of construction and puts it into a linked digital format.

July 2007, BuildingWorks moved into St. Louis Enterprise Centers - West County. Later, she utilized the services of St. Louis County Economic Council through which BuildingWorks received a loan and mentoring. "I love that the center has everything we need," she says.
