Hello!

Well, this update was SUPPOSED to be sent out last week, but like many in the Northeastern U.S., Mother Nature played a little trick versus a treat and we lost power for several days!  Our hope is that others are surviving this unpredictable precipitation, with many not-so-surprising days to come in this... Fall (?) season!
New Releases

Evin Anderson just released a collection of four short plays - Inside Out, his first release with JAC.  Included in the collection are Race You to the Finish, Inside Out, Renholder Place and 10 Seconds.  Click HERE for a complete breakdown of these plays and their stories. ISBN #1-60153-128-8; JAC #2011-0033.  This title is also available through Amazon.com, and soon to be in kindle format, as well.

Another play comes to us from playwright Coni Ciongoli-Koepfinger.  Unspoken Acts is a riveting one act shrouded in controversial ideas.  A disfigured loner befriends a priest who is not able to keep his secret, even though it is told in the sanctity of the Confessional.  ISBN #1-60513-125-3; JAC #2011-0030. This title is also available thru Amazon.com, in Kindle format, as well.

David-Matthew Barnes has released his third selection through JAC, a touching and emotional play for two men - Sloe Gin Fizz.  On a rainy night, two co-workers, Marco and Christopher, are drawn together out of loneliness. Marco is married to a Korean woman whom he does not love. Christopher is suffering from a broken heart after another failed relationship.  In the course of one night, the two men emotionally confront the expectations of a new relationship, the conflict of conforming to an unfriendly society, the traditional roles expected of men, and the powerful, consuming feelings of love. ISBN #1-60513-124-5; JAC #2011-0029.  This title is available thru Amazon.com,  in Kindle format, as well.

Also new from Barnes is a trilogy of plays - Don't Mention It.  In this collection are: False Hopes: A play in one act. Amy chooses to have an abortion after discovering she's pregnant with the child of her married boss. Claudia discovers she'll never be able to have children of her own. Nicole is pregnant with her first child but has recently realized she's not in love with her successful husband. Bracelets and Boyfriends:  A play in one act. Having both turned fifty, childhood friends Judy and Olivia decide to return to a quaint seaside town they once visited on family vacations during their early teen years.  Reminded of loves lost, choices made, and the fading of their youth, Judy and Olivia reaffirm their friendship, the tender memories they share, and the journey through life that has made them the women they are now.  Bracelets and Boyfriends is a powerful and thought-provoking play about two women who must look back before they can move forward. Don't Mention It: A play in one act.  When sixty-year-old New York native Stella discovers that her grandson has been diagnosed with AIDS, she turns to her best friend Madeline for comfort and strength. ISBN #1-60513-098-2; JAC #2011-0002.  These plays can be licensed together or independently, and are available on the JAC website, as well as on Amazon.com, in Kindle format, as well.

All JAC Publishing plays are available on our website.  For more information about these or any of JAC's play selections, visit us online, or drop us an email!

PSO Presents 32nd Annual Magic of Christmas

PORTLAND, ME: Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) announces details of the 2011 production of Magic of Christmas, starring Music Director Robert Moody and the world-class musicians of the PSO in a festive and inspirational program, in the gloriously-transformed Merrill Auditorium. Magic of Christmas has been a holiday tradition for generations, delighting audiences of all ages for over 30 years. This brand-new production features aerialists and acrobats from Cirque de la Symphonie (who performed with the PSO in October 2009), as well as the Magic of Christmas Chorus, organist Ray Cornils, and the all-male a capella groups Bowdoin College Longfellows and Maine Steiners.

Conductor Robert Moody spoke of his excitement for the plans for Magic of Christmas 2011, "We've got a whole new production in store, and I can't wait! We'll bid a temporary farewell to our acclaimed version of 'A Christmas Carol' (don't worry, it will be back in years to come), and instead welcome the dazzling aerialists of 'Cirque de la Symphonie,' who will illuminate the traditions, story, and spirit of the Christmas season through their breathtaking performances."

Audiences will celebrate cherished traditions with music from The Nutcracker, festive carols, and the "Hallelujah!" chorus from Handel's Messiah, while high-flying aerialists evoke the soaring spirit of the holidays, performing stunning acrobatic feats to seasonal and classical favorites. Hundreds of voices (including the versatile and multi-talented Maestro's) will lift in sacred song, along with the awe-inspiring power of the mighty Kotzschmar Organ, all in celebration of the miraculous story of the Christmas season.

Eleven performances of Magic of Christmas will run from December 9 to December 18 at Merrill Auditorium, 20 Myrtle Street in Portland. Performances are Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. An additional 2:00 p.m. matinee is scheduled for Friday, December 16. Tickets are available at www.porttix.com,  by phone at 207-842-0800, or at the PortTix box office, 20 Myrtle St., Monday through Saturday from noon to 6:00 PM. Phone and internet orders are subject to $6 per-ticket PortTix handling fee, and all ticket prices include a $2 Merrill Restoration fee.
