New Releases
New from international playwright Denis Emorine is the one-act play, Closing Time, translated from the French by Brian Cole. Says Michael T. Stefferi, "Closing Time is a play in one act that examines the delicate dilemma of a prospective second love, a fresh-life romance in the making between a café owner (Isabelle) who is a widow of a seemingly faded grief and a client (Francois) who is agonizingly enduring a recent split with his sweetheart (Helen). As the drama unfolds, many contradictions and reversals (typical of play-write Denis Emorine's dramatic chess-playing) are revealed." The café is about to close. One customer, François refuses to leave. The owner, Isabelle, is worried. What does this individual want from her? How can she make him leave? The conversation starts... ISBN #1-60513-117-2; JAC #2011-0022. This title is also available via Amazon.com.
From Terry M. Sandler, JAC presents a collection of short plays called The Mommy & Me Fishing Trip & Other Plays. Says Laurence Carr, Playwright and Professor of Creative Writing at SUNY New Paltz, these plays all inhabit the same world, where dreamscape & reality mingle; where off-center worlds & characters create a reality just a shadow away from our own.And in their quest to come to grips with their own inner conflicts, they reveal basic truths about ourselves. Included in the book are The Mommy & Me Fishing Trip, Two Boys; Two Balloons; When the Bedbugs Bite and Duck Talk. ISBN 1-60513-107-5; JAC #2011-0012. This collection is also available via Amazon.com.
JAC is very pleased to offer two new short plays from playwright Steven Bergman. First is a dramatic piece for four teens (2M/2F) - LOCK DOWN, in which we observe four students in the midst of a real time lock down. Very tense. Somewhat frightening. A fantastic piece for four young actors. ISBN #1-60513-115-6; JAC #2011-0020. This title is also available via Amazon.com. Second is a lighter piece, a short comedy for two men and one woman - One Afternoon in Smithfield. Actor Wilson Claymore has been summoned to the small town of Smithfield by his agent, Dottie. What scheme does she have in store for them? One that will make them a lot of money, no doubt. ISBN #1-60513-116-4; JAC #2011-0021. This title is also available on Amazon.com.
