Playwright Profile: Dan Borengasser was born in El Campo, TX and raised in Fort Smith, AR, where he attended elementary school and high school, specializing in mischief-making. He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas and was shocked - literally - to realize that electricity is treacherous and can't be trusted. Borengasser also completed the course work for a Masters in English at Northern Illinois University and is occasionally able to recall what literary Naturalism is about. NIU was, however, where he met the lovely Mrs. Borengasser, so grad school was actually a fortuitous experience. Borengasser is thankful to have been gainfully employed over the years. He has been a sales engineer for Phillips Petroleum, a sales manager and station manager at several television stations, and vice president of a film and video production company.
In addition to Cat Horoscopes & Other Diversions and Whiskers' Pond, Borengasser has written science fiction stories, greeting cards, stage plays and screenplays. He blushes to admit that one of the science fiction stories was nominated for a Hugo and that he has won numerous awards for stage plays and screenplays.

New Releases
New from playwright/author Dan Borengasser is The Kindness of Strangers. Darin Fisher, claiming to be a MFA grad student, arrives to produce and direct a Shakespearean play. He's staying till the performance, one week away. Ten residents show up for the initial meeting. They're irascible and headstrong, but they agree to do The Tempest. Then they bully Darin into playing Ferdinand and therapist Heather Barclay into playing Miranda. As it turns out, Darin's not a grad student, but an undercover cop sent to Swann to investigate a series of suspicious deaths. When Heather discovers this, he realizes his mission is jeopardized, and he's ready to pull out. But he stays for one more night, just long enough to suspect that the deaths have been suicides, assisted by the very group he's directing. He's in a quandary- does he apply the letter of the law? Or try to rationalize away their illegal intervention. 7 women and 7 men in this comic mystery. ISBN #1-60513-103-2 ; JAC #2011-0008. This title is also available via Amazon.com.
JAC has two new plays from playwright Sylvia Davenport-Veith available. The first is a one-act called A Snowy Night in Iowa. Set in 1945, this is the story of Constance and Vernon, two young African Americans who are both serving in the United States Army. While waiting for their respective trains in a Des Moines, Iowa train station, they interact with Bernard and Hilda Schiebler, two German Jews anxious about family in Hitler's death camps. Tension ensues when a radio, the only source for news, goes silent. Social issues of the day provide a rich background for this memorable love story. ISBN #1-60513-099-0; JAC #2011-0004. This script is also available via Amazon.com.
Also available from Sylvia Davenport-Veith is a hilarious short play called Inside the Dressing Room. Thrown together as mothers-in-law-to-be, Cassie Clayton and Betty Longstring are shopping for their gowns, but not everything is going smoothly. Just when it seems these two ladies have nothing in common, the moment for a heart-to-heart arrives. Important secrets are shared, and they decide to start their friendship anew over hot fudge sundaes. ISBN #1-60513-100-8; JAC #2011-0005. This title is also available via Amazon.com.
In Jim Hetrick's moving full-length new release, Blessed Event, a family holds vigil at the side of their passing Patriarch, each finding a time to reflect upon past times and the future of their lives with out him. ISBN 1-60513-101-6; JAC #2011-0006. This title is also available via Amazon.com.
Ryan Williams has his first release thru JAC - Where There's a Will, There's... - a farcical murder mystery.
Set in a small bed and breakfast in the English country side, owned by Mr. & Mrs. Krandle. A wealthy Englishman has rented out the Inn to bring his family together to discuss his final will and testament. The beneficiaries arrive one by one prepared to find out what they stand to gain. One small problem crops up; Richard is murdered in his room, and everyone has a motive. The local detective, Inspector Fox arrives, but is convinced that the murder can only be the work of a roving team of ninjas. At this point, a member of the audience has had enough and decides to interject, wrenching the play off the tracks. He is dragged on stage and forced to play the role of the detective, the fourth wall is shattered, characters are irretrievably broken, and the mad dash to bring the show to a conclusion is on. ISBN 1-60513-110-5; JAC #2011-0015. This title is also available via Amazon.com.
