New Releases
Recently released is from a newcomer to JAC, Laura L. Sheperd. Annie's Story is the story of Annie, who is taken by her Grandparents from her family at an early age and is raised by them during the late 1950s. She is subjected to abuse at the hands of her Grandfather and, as an adolescent, is accused of improper behavior by members of the small town community in which they live. As a young woman of 23, she returns to her Grandparents' home accompanied by her sister. The two sisters travel together in an effort to get to know one another. Her sister has also come along to lend Annie moral support as she breaks the news to her Grandparents that the man she plans to marry is of a different race. As the relationship between the two sisters develops, they confide in each other only to discover they share a disturbing family secret. There are 2 men and 7 woman in the cast.
And from the playwright who brought us The Seduction of Thomas Sorrell not too long ago, we have a new full-length piece on a lighter side. The comedy Going to Tibet by T.F. Cahill tells a story of Duncan Peters. Life will not be the same for Duncan once his wife (Miriam) becomes a state Supreme Court judge and their daughter follows her fiancé to Africa to aid the sick and poor. Its not that he begrudges his wife's appointment or Alison alleviating the suffering of others, but his comfortable life as a counter-culture software inventor will be forever disrupted. He's wistful for the old days he was young and living in an ashram. A time when he gave Miriam a the Pink Kunzite, and his long hair, love beads and crystals wouldn't sink Miriam's nomination. So, Miriam schemes to get Duncan out of town until after her meeting with the Judicial Council Commissioner. With the help of his protégé (Sam), Duncan leaves for "Tibet." Add in a couple of extra love stories, and Going to Tibet is a hilarious dose of good karma. There are 4 men and 3 women in the cast.
