New Releases

Nicholas Conti's WENCESLASWhat's new to the JAC Publishing play catalog?  Nicholas Conti has brought us another terrific holiday/pageant-friendly selection.  It's called WENCESLAS, and it is perfect for a large cast of individuals of all ages.  Join in as King Wenceslas celebrates his Coronation Celebration in the Throne Room at the castle, where he makes it quite clear that he is determined to be a man of the people. This brings the peasants great joy, but makes the nobles upset and hostile toward him. A few months later, we witness the King's Tribunal where he sits in judgment of criminals, doling out punishment justly and even offering positions in the castle to help straighten their ways by assisting with the castle's Christmas Pageant. With envy and personal ambition, Wenceslas' younger step-brother, Sigismund, ruler of Luxembourg, visits and warns that the noblity is unhappy with his reign (and his pageant). Sigismund becomes vindictive and even attempts to assassinate Wenceslas, but his failed attempt leaves Wenceslas free to go ahead with his pageant. And so it goes, the enthusiastic King and his peasants break into festive dancing, acrobatics and song, getting the audience to join in with them.

Sandra McNiff's 'Final Notes'

Also new is a one-act from Sandra McNiff - Final Notes.  Jeff Divine, the founding director of a college theater, has passed away - but his influence lives in the members of his drama studio. A fun loving man, with an engaging wit and sarcastic sense of humor, he instilled in his students a love of all things theatrical - from well-written words, to cleaning up the stage after the performance. In his final director's notes, read by students representing different stages of his career, he reveals his keen, almost mystical, powers of observation, and insight into their lives.
