Spring 2010
Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends of the Foundation,

In our last newsletter, we encouraged you to use the Foundation for your 2009 year-end giving and your 2010 planning.  Well, I am pleased to report that, with God's blessing and your support, the Foundation finished 2009 strong and is off to a great start in 2010.

In addition to funding our own operations, the Foundation has now distributed over $1,700,000 to 33 churches and Christ-centered ministries, including WPC, WCCS, Westminster Towers, Faith Home, Mercy Ministries of America, Just Give Me Jesus, Reformed Theological Seminary and several missions organizations. What a blessing! For a complete list of the churches and ministries with which we have partnered (or are prepared to partner), please visit www.westminsterfoundation.com.  This list is always growing, so please let us know of other churches or ministries on your heart! In this newsletter, we feature two ministry efforts recently supported by the Foundation: Camp Canaan and the Ben Watson/ROAR Sports Football Clinic.

As a reminder . . . The Foundation has two main purposes: (1) To serve God's faithful (you!) by helping you plan your stewardship and carry out those plans, and (2) to help fund Kingdom work. With His blessing and your support, we believe we are making great progress.

Thank YOU for all you do in furtherance of the Kingdom, whether through the Foundation or not. Our partnerships with other ministries would not be possible without the financial and prayer support from those individuals and families we have served along the way.  Please do not hesitate to call me or Julie Grider if we can be of assistance.

                                       In His Service,

                                       Edwin Barnes, Jr.

"Facing the Giants" and the
Ben Watson Football Clinic
On Saturday, March 27, NFL player Ben Watson, a Northwestern High School graduate, was back in Rock Hill to host his third football clinic with ROAR Sports. Over 250 area kids came to hear Ben talk about his faith and the importance of being Christ-like both on and off the playing field. The kids also practiced football drills and played a scrimmage with Watson and several other NFL players, including Rock Hill High School graduate and Tennessee Titans player Chris Hope and Carolina Panthers players Steve Smith and Thomas Davis.

Westminster Ministries Foundation was on hand and helped sponsor the distribution of DVDs of the movie "Facing the Giants" to the nearly 200 participants at the afternoon and evening sessions. "Facing the Giants" tells the story of a high school football coach struggling with hardships at home and on the football field. His faith in God is inspiring and teaches a lesson of trust and faith: "Nothing is impossible with God."

"Facing the Giants" is a must-see for parents and kids alike. The Foundation is pleased to have provided the DVD to so many families in the Rock Hill area. We have a few DVDs left, so please contact us if you would like one.
Jean M.Ministry Highlight: CAMP CANAAN

Sometimes it is hard to believe that in our fast growing, suburban sprawl of York County, SC there could be a small slice of heaven right in our backyards. Just off the coast of Rock Hill sits a wooded 100-acre island in the middle of one of America's oldest river systems- the Catawba. This small part of God's creation became home to a unique dream in the summer of 2003, a dream called Camp Canaan. The vision was to create a simple but innovative approach to see both young and the young at heart refreshed, challenged and loved. A place where children, youth and adults could unplug from our fast-paced world, develop lasting friendships, find adventure and grow within a community of faith.

In 2004, Camp Canaan was incorporated in the state of South Carolina and recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. The Camp's primary service is to provide and facilitate a variety of programs within a summer camp, retreat and adventure setting, all centered on Christ. Scholarships for children may be available through a private foundation called The Promise Fund.

The Camp is governed by a Board and is managed by founders and directors, Nick and Tiffany Wimmer. Canaan's philosophy of service is to offer quality, safe programs with a hands-on-approach that focuses on the development of each individual and their purpose and role in the community and the Kingdom. The greatest asset of the Camp is its staff of dedicated and talented Christians who help make each participant's experience on the island one of lasting value.

To find out more information and to become a part of this burgeoning community of people who love God and loves others, please visit sometime, e-mail them at www.campcanaan.org or give them a call at 803-327-6932.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity can be a great way to give to ministry and receive income. With interest rates on bank accounts and CDs so low these days, a charitable gift annuity may provide an opportunity to receive more current income than you are receiving today and benefit ministry at the same time. To learn more about charitable gift annuity opportunities, please contact Edwin Barnes, Jr. by email at
ebarnes@westminsterfoundation.com or by phone at 366-8880.
